Sunlight filter through the windows as Marley and I ran around the apartment, packing my things into boxes. Thankfully I didn't have much. My parents, my friends Nikki and Olivia from work, and Jeff would be over soon to help us. After much thought and planning, today was the day I was going to Nashville a moving in with Jeff. It had been two months since the tour ended.
Once my parents and friends arrived, we worked on bringing the boxes down while we waited for Jeff. A chilly wind was nipping at us.
"How are you feeling, honey?" My mom asked.
"Nervous but excited." I replied. "How are you guys feeling?"
"We couldn't be more happy for you." My dad chimmed in. "You're finally getting to live your life."
My life. My life had changed so much in a matter of months. I never in a million years would've ever imagined my life turning out this way. Reconnecting with my dad. Befriending the Newsboys. Falling in love with one. My life was the farthest one from normal but at this point I wouldn't trade it for anything. I wouldn't go back a fix a single thing.
After a few short minutes of waiting, Jeff pulled up and backed up his car. One by one, we started loading the boxes into the back of his cars. It didn't take long and by noon we were done.
"We'll miss you, sweetie." My mom said, pulling me into a hug.
"I'll miss you guys too."
"We love you so stay safe amd make good joices." My dad added as he hugged me.
"I will." I replied. "I love you guys too."
I hugged Nikki and Olivia and told goodbye, thanking for their support and wonderful years of working together. And finally I moved to Marley.
"It's not like you're really far." She sai as we hugged. "You're just two hours away."
"Which is why I expect you to visit." I told her.
"Only if you promise to come visit me." Marley stuck her pinky out which I wrapped with my own. Marley hugged me one last time. "I love you. We may both be the only child, but you're the best friend amd sister I could ask for."
"I love you too." I replied. "Thank you for supporting me through all these years. You never left my side."
"And though we're a couple of hours apart, I'll still never leave your side." Marley wrapped her arm around my shoulders. "I've always got your back."
"Are you ready?" Jeff asked me, once I finished saying goodbye.
"I am." I said with a smile.
My dad turned before we got into his car. "Take care of my little girl." He called. "Help her love the life she wants to."
"I will, sir." Jeff replied. "I promise."
With one final goodbye, we climbed into Jeff's car and headed out onto the road. I watched my hometown fade away through the rear view mirror. I starred out the window watching trees rolly by, counting the minutes and miles. Any second now, we'd be there. My new town. My new home.
As excited as I was, Jeff was quiet the whole drive. The two hour drive went by quickly and soon we back in Nashville. When we pulled into the driveway of Jeff's house, there were two other cars parked outside.
"Who's cars are thess?" I asked.
Jeff smiled at me and simply grabbed my hand, leading me to the door. "Open the door and find out."
I reached out and opened the door and was met with a loud, "Surprise!"
Michael, Jody, Duncan, Avery and Aidyn were were standing in Jeff's living room that ahd been decorated with a few balloons and streams and a banner that said "Welcome home." A little food buffet was spread out in the kitchen.
"What's all this?" I asked.
"A little welcome to your new home party." Michael answered.
"Aww, you guys didn't have to do all this." I went around and hug everyone. "But thank you."
"Once we're done partying, we all help you move stuff in." Duncan added.
"Imma help too!" Aidyn exclaimed, jumping up and down.
The party was so much fun. We talked, laughed and ate. Around four o'clock, we started unloading everything out of Jeff's car and bringing it inside. Aidyn, so eager to help, was given the lightest box there was whoch only contained a couple of small pillows. Every stayed and helped unpack and organize and arranged everything. By 5:30, I was officially all settled in.
The first few nights were strange. Everything felt new, unfamiliar. But soon Nashville started to feel like home. Almost immediately Marley visited. Not long after I went to visit my parents. It was odd to see the boys, Avery and Aidyn everyday when we weren't walking out of a tour bus. Now I saw them at the store, the park or, the best one, seeing Jody next door.
I was home. I had said goodbye to the home, the town I had grown up in. I was moving on. Mu dad was righy. It was about time I lived my life. I would do it with Jeff and the boys at my side. And I'd be at theirs.
My life started now.
My life with the Newsboys.
