The morning of the wedding. We had all gotten up early, grabbing everything we needed and headed to the church. The whole ride there, My mom couldn't stop talking a out how excited she was. It had been so long since I had seen her this excited about anything. Her smile was brighter than it had ever been before.
Everyone taking part in the wedding was escorted to separate rooms to change and get ready. Marley and I, practically being sisters, shared a room.
"Today's the day." Marley chirped.
"I know." I said, finishing my makeup. "It's finally here."
"Did you tell your dad about you-know-who?"
"No." I replied. "I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Is he here yet?"
I checked my messages on my phone. "Last I texted him, he was five minutes away."
Marley and I finished getting ready when someone knocked on the door. My aunt was standing outside. "Hey Mya, there's a guy out here looking for you."
"Thanks Aunt May." I said pushing by her.
I walked around until I found him. He was dressed in the black suit he had gotten on tour thanks to Marley's plan. Now that we were taking things slow, I wasn't afraid to deny how handsome he looked. I had offered an invitation to the rest of the band and Avery but according to Jeff, they declined saying that we needed some "alone time."
I walked over to him. "Hey. You look great."
"Thanks. You look beautiful." He pulled me into a small hug and as we pulled away, I reached up and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"Come with me. I know a big Newsboys fan who'd like to meet you." I grabbed his hand and lead him through the church.
We walked around for a couple of minutes until we found my dad at the alter with my uncle and Mr. Taylor. I waved in the direction and when he notices Jeff, my dad's eyes went wide. He excused himself and came up to meet us.
"Is that?" My dad's mouth fell open in disbelief.
I smiled at his shock. "Dad, meet Jeff Frankenstein from the Newsboys."
My dad shook Jeff's hand, his smile bigger than I had ever seen it. "It's an honor. Thank you for coming."
Jeff return my dad's smile with his own. "Thank you for letting me come. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"I wasn't expecting a Newsboy to be you plus one." My dad turned his attention to me.
"Well, I wanted it to be a surprise." I replied with a small shrug.
The three of us continued to talk until an announcement for the wedding to start was made. My dad stayed at the alter and Jeff stayed with Mrs. Taylor, Aunt May and my grandmother. I made my way to the line up linked my arm with my uncle's. Marley and her father were behind us with my mother and my grandfather behind them. I turned around to look at my mother. She looked amazing. The wedding dress she had been married in the first time still fit her as well as the syluit my dad had worn and they both had agreed to were them again.
Then finally it was time. We heard the music start and my uncle and I started down first followed by Marley and her father. We got to the alter and took our places. And lastly, my mom and my grandfather walked down. The wedding was beautiful though small. Smiles were bright and some tears were shed.
While my parents stayed back to take a few more photos, the rest of us went ahead and made our way to the venue for the reception. The caterers had everything set up while the band was get their set ready.
The reception got underway once my parents arrived. The meal came first and then my mom and dad did their dance. Eventually everyone was just doing their own thing. Marley and I were simply sitting at our table. My mom was talking with my aunt and uncle while my dad talked with Jeff. My grandparents and Marley's parents were dancing. The music was slow and lyrical.
"This is nice." Marley said. "Small but nice."
I simply smiled in agreement. From beside me, I heard someone clear their throat. I looked up and saw Jeff offering my his hand. "May I have a dance....and a talk?"
I smiled and took his hand sure. "Sure."
As we walked to the dance floor, I looked back to see Marley's smug face smiling at me. Once we got onto the floor, Jeff's hand fell to my waist. I wrapped my arms around his neck and let my hand rest on the back of his neck.
"So we start the tour again in a few day," Jeff said as we gently swayed to the music. "and you and Marley technically have fully enjoyed your prize."
"Are you officially inviting us back?" I asked.
"We would love to have you guys back."
I smiled. "I think I can speak for both us and say that we'd love to come back."
"Good. Also there'll be one more person joining us."
I raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
"You'll see."
I smiled and chuckled as I rested my head on his shoulder, blissfully awaiting the next few days.
