Sokka ducked behind a car and covered his mouth. A few moments ago, three men had walked around a corner and they were clearly not employees. They were all carrying guns and had sunglasses, and they were all looking for him.
"What the fuck is even going on right now?" He cursed to himself.
A soft vibration in his pocket grabbed his attention and he quickly pulled out his phone to silence it. But before he could, the name of the caller stopped him dead in his tracks.
"Hello?" He whispered into the phone, his heart racing faster than before.
"Sokka?" Zuko's sweet, concerned voice asked from the other end.
"Oh, Zuko! You're ok?!" He sighed, watching the group of men walk around, looking for him.
"I'm fine, where are you?"
"I'm in the parking garage of your Dad's company..." Sokka whispered.
"What?! Why?!"
"I was worried... I was coming to save you but I was too late I guess. Now I'm trying to save myself," He paused. "I think there's people here to kill your Dad or something..."
"What?"
"They look like hitmen."
"Ugh, Sokka! That doesn't matter, just... Come home!"
"I'm trying, this place is freaking huge!"
"Alright, are the hitmen gone?"
"Not yet."
"What section of the parking garage are you in?"
"Um," Sokka looked around. "D, I think?"
"Alright, try and make your way to the east end of the floor, there's an emergency exit there I'm pretty sure. It'll set off the alarm but at least you'll be safe... And so will my Dad probably."
"Alright, I'll see you in a few," Sokka paused. "I love you."
Before Zuko could answer, he'd hung up and was now making his way slowly towards where Zuko said to go.
"Leuce, let's just go. Whoever it is can't have warned Ozai by now." One of the hitmen groaned.
"Alright, I'll go to the elevator, Lee come with me, Kai, you stay and watch for the guy."
"Yes sir."
Sokka glanced back at the three, they were all turning around a corner so they'd be out of sight. Once they'd gone around, Sokka took a deep, shaky breath and made a run for the other side of the garage.
"Hear that? He's over there." One of the men directed.
"Shit!" Sokka cursed, slamming himself to a wall behind a truck. The back was open and the cover was on so he climbed in and pulled it closed.
"I'll find him sir, you go get Ozai."
"Don't let him escape."
_
Zuko fiddled with his hands as he sat in Sokka's room. He'd taken a quick shower to both get clean and in hopes that it would calm him down, but when Sokka still wasn't home once he'd gotten out, he was worried. He'd called the police so hopefully they were at his father's building by now, but who knew. He didn't want to check the news and he couldn't tear his eyes from his screen in case Sokka called him.
Part of him wanted to go to the building himself, but he knew if he got caught there it wouldn't be as easy to escape. So he would just have to wait.
_
The man's footsteps were light as he walked around the area, scanning around and under the cars. Sokka's eyes adjusted to the pitch black darkness of the trunk and he stared at the part he'd crawled through, praying that he wouldn't get found.
"Come on out..." The man ushered, he was pretty far from the truck now, but Sokka didn't dare move.
Moments later, the faint echo of sirens rang through the lot. And Sokka took a breath, relief filling his system.
"Fuck." The guy cursed.
Sokka waited, he couldn't be sure that the guy was gone now. Though it was a safe bet, he still couldn't risk getting shot. And that was when the sheer bizarreness of the situation hit him. How had he gone from his main worry being finding his soulmate to hiding in a random trunk to evade being shot?
A flurry of footsteps entered the parking lot and he heard the stern voices of police. Slowly, he climbed out of the trunk and looked around the lot. Officers searched the area. One spotted him and immediately aimed their gun.
"Don't shoot! I'm a civilian!" He immediately sputtered, sticking his hands up.
"Search him." The officer nodded to two others who stood near them.
At that, the two moved over to pay down Sokka and check his pockets.
"He's good." One of them called back.
"Alright. Did you see the men who we were called about?" The main officer asked, putting away their gun.
"Yeah, that's who I was hiding from."
"We caught two of them but we're missing one, do you know where he is?"
"Not exactly but I know he was in here looking for me before you arrived. Couldn't have gone far."
"Did you get a good look at his face? Or what he was wearing?"
"He was wearing all black. All of them were. But I didn't get a good look. Sorry." Sokka shrugged.
"All right, we'll have someone escort you out. We'll need your name and information please."
Sokka paused. If he gave his information... Would they be able to trace him back to Zuko? He couldn't risk it right? But he also couldn't just lie to the police.
He gave a soft nod and one officer handed him a clipboard with a sheet of paper. He filled it out honestly, and then handed it back.
After that, he was walked out of the building where a swarm of police officers and cars were parked outside the building. News crews and ambulances were also there. He saw some random people get loaded into the ambulances but none of them looked important enough to be Zuko's Dad.
"You get home safe, alright?" The officer nodded to him.
"Okay, thank you." Sokka nodded and headed off towards his car.
Climbing on, he started the engine and pulled out of the street, starting off towards his house. As he turned a corner, something pressed to the back of his head and he looked in the rearview mirror.
"Hi there," The same guy from before smirked. "I need a little favour."
