"Clem?" Aj asked.
"What's up buddy?" I questioned him back as we walked through the parking lot of the mall.
"I'm sorry for being mean when we were coming here. I'm jut upset because you said I can't know things that you talk about in front of me." He explained.
"It's okay kiddo. I'm sorry too. You're growing up so fast and I'm not ready for that yet. You're still a kid and certain things in this world will ruin that. I don't want that ruined for you yet." I replied.
"Can we maybe not talk about things I'm not allowed to know then? Or at least not in front of me?" Aj queried.
"Of course buddy. If I had the choice yesterday, that whole thing would've never happened." I responded. "Ooh look!"
I pointed up at the top of ridge like hill with a smaller strip mall that included a supermarket.
"We'll look for things up there. If we can't find anything up there, we'll go back. The mall is just right here so we can't get lost." I explained, walking fast to the road.
Aj quickly followed behind me as we cautiously approached, looking through glass doors and windows to spot any danger ahead.
"Draw your knife or gun and keep in handy the whole time Aj." I demanded as I did the same and we walked into the supermarket.
I held my gun close to my chest, looking both ways before heading to one end with Aj following closely behind me.
"We need to look for perishables." I stated, bending down to his level. "Cans, things that look like they have a long shelf life. Crackers, stuff like that. Anything that doesn't look rotten."
We both stayed close to each other. The shelves were very bare with the accepting of a few opened or eaten things but we looked through every isle.
We took our time looking through each shelf and everytime we found even one thing, we got excited.
We ended up with about 9 things total which wasn't good but wasn't bad.
"Clem, what about the back?" He asked.
My eye lit up, even if it was one more thing, it was better. I rushed to the back with Aj as we looked through there too, finding 5 more things.
We walked out of the supermarket and looked down the row of stores that was there.
Most of them were things we could get much from, like small nail salons and other things.
We quickly checked a pizza shop but found nothing.
As we walked down the strip, Aj spotted a toy store and I spotted a bath and body works and a Michael's.
"We can hit all three of them in a row and then we can head back, okay?" I told Aj and he obliged.
Hitting the toy store first, he found almost nothing but he grabbed a box with little action figures in them.
Next we hit the Michael's.
"If you see anything, grab it. You and Willy need other things to keep busy instead of only scout duty once and a while." I said before we both separated inside.
I first ran to the crayons and colored pencils, only finding a pack of half missing colored pencils however I still took them.
"Find anything?" He shouted from a few isles down.
"Not much, what about you?" I asked and was replied with a simple no.
We took a few more minutes in the craft store, picking up some miscellaneous markers and crayons from the floor.
