Calum

Being in the waiting room sucked.

Especially because I was so used to the action of the hospital. I almost clocked in for an hour, just to keep my mind busy, but I knew that I had to stay incase we got updates.

"Chocolate muffin,"

"Thanks, Mike,"

"How long have they been in?"

"About 2 and a half hours. This is the worst experience ever,"

He sat beside me and unwrapped the muffin, shoving it in my mouth as I went to speak; I laughed and took a bite, then rested my head on his shoulder and sighed.

My anxiety was through the roof.

"Day three, and you've already got them into life changing surgery. You're a rockstar, did you know?"

"Gia is suffering from it though, and I hate that,"

"Ash told me she is really happy. Apparently she is grateful you are giving them this surgery because it means Rider can sleep well, and won't have real injuries when they play doctor,"

"She has began to feel so much sympathy and empathy now, it's really beautiful to see her start to develop into her own person," I said, not being able to help the smile on my face as I spoke about her, "She will come around to you soon,"

"If I can convince Luke to give me a lift when she gets one too..."

"That will probably work,"

"I was kidding, but maybe I will," he shrugged.

"Thanks for the help with the bed, by the way. He's loving his own space,"

"No problem, it was nice to come round,"

"You and Rider would get along I think, you'll have to come round again soon,"

"Is this your surgeon?"

I sat up straight and looked up, standing when Sam approached us.

"Rider is out, he's already waking up, but he's in lots of pain so we want to give him a sedative. He wants you first, though,"

Mike pat my back and left, so I followed Sam up to the recovery room and put the bags down, gently brushing Rider's hair from his face; he whimpered, trying to pull me closer.

"Hey buddy, you did so well,"

"Dad,"

"Yeah, it's okay. You are doing so well, but I know it's hurting a lot, so they're going to make you all sleepy for a bit longer, and you can have a big nap while we wait for Sage,"

He nodded and I stayed with him in my arms, watching as they pumped him with more stuff. His face was a little bit swollen, but I was hoping the pain would become bearable sooner rather than later.

Once he was asleep again, I tucked him into bed and stayed there, gently running my fingers through his hair.

Sleeping made him look so peaceful, and at ease, which is all I wished for him.

Sage too, and it couldn't have been more than an hour until they were brought in.

"It went quicker that expected,"

"Is that good?"

"Unfortunately it's because when we got in there we found a couple of teeth that just weren't worth saving. However, if they wish, there will be solutions. They're at the back so it might not particularly bother them,"
