Calum"You're gonna have a good day," I said, turning to Gia, who was ecstatic that Rider would be back, "I love you,"
"Are you picking me up?"
"I should be. Have a good day angel,"
"I love you,"
Smiling, I kissed her head and then let her out of the car, watching her walk through the gates and into the school. Once I knew she was safely inside, I pulled away and turned round, heading to work.
My phone began to ring, connected to the car, so I answered it and turned it down as Ashton's voice bellowed through the speaker.
"Calummmmmm,"
"Yes?"
"My car won't start, please can I have a ride?"
"I thought you took it to the garage,"
"Well clearly it needs to go again,"
"I'll be there in five,"
Again, I turned round, heading to his house instead. I put the radio on to try and distract myself from the time slipping away. Being late was far from my favourite thing.
As soon as I pulled into the drive, he got in the car, slinging his bag in the back. Unlike me, he never came to work in his scrubs, but I never wanted to risk it when I had to sort Gia out in the morning.
"You are a life saver,"
"Well I couldn't say no,"
"You could," he laughed, "I would've called Mike,"
"I bet he slept at the hospital,"
"Nah,"
"We will see,"
"Have you got anything on in particular today?"
"There's a c-section, twins, so I am on stand by for them. I might have a couple of consults but I'm floating round the ER a lot lately,"
"You love it there, though,"
"And hate it,"
"Well I love my job,"
I pouted and he laughed, unplugging his seatbelt as I parked up. He grabbed our bags from the back and passed me mine, walking beside me as we went inside.
"How was Gia?"
"Oh, she's in a great mood now Rider is back in school,"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah,"
"Isn't that Sage?"
I followed his gaze and saw them draped in a seat, excusing myself. Next to them were their grandparents, who stood as I approached.
"Is everything okay? Gia was so excited to see Rider again,"
"Rider was throwing up, and he complained of chest pains so Sage decided to call an ambulance,"
"Okay... Sage, are you okay?"
"Yeah,"
Their eyes were bright red, and there was a smell so pungent I could feel my eyes watering.
"Maybe they both ingested something they shouldn't have, I am going to take Sage for a checkup,"
"She is fine,"
"They need medical attention, something is up. Come on darling,"
"We will come,"
"We are quite busy right now, you need to stay in the waiting room. Thank you,"
