"I really..." I hear Jennie start to say, but then Krystal appears and puts an arm around my neck.
"Hello, sweetie! We need to talk." she squeezes my cheek and I pat her hand.
"I already edited the videos for you, including, thanks for the retching I had." we enter one of the empty rooms and she locks the door. "Why are you locking the door?"
"Are you worried that your girlfriend will be jealous?"
"Excuse me?" I lean against the table and cross my arms. "It doesn't matter, what do you need?"
"I tried to think of ways to put the video on the screen, but I couldn't, so I can only think of you to do that."
"I told you I wasn't going to do that anymore."
"Yeah, yeah, ever since you fell in love with Jennie Kim, you regretted creating that plan." she waves her hand as if it were nonsense.
"What did you say?" I squint and she approaches me, a smile so big on her face "You know that me and Kim..."
"Don't waste time using your speech with me. You can convince everyone at this school, you can lie to your friends, but not to me, Jisoo." she stops in front of me, watching me intently.
"I..."
"You want the hard way, so that's okay. Remember, I even tried to ask for your help in a good way." she sighs and takes something out of her back pocket, throwing photo cards on the table. I turn around and take one of them, feeling my breath catch in my throat. "I told you." she giggles.
"How..." my voice comes out weak and I spread the images on the table. There are at least 20 photo cards, of me and Jennie.
"The day she declared to you. I had to go back to the locker room because I forgot my sneakers and I lost one of my socks. I made my way to the bathroom and that's when I heard her saying." she shakes her head and looks at the cards "I didn't believe when I heard it." I swallow and my breathing is fast, fear? "I was so surprised to find out that you have been having sex for so long, I don't know how someone didn't put the pieces together, you're the biggest cliché and romantic couple in this school." she rolls her eyes and laughs.
"Krystal." I take a deep breath "I can't help you, if I do that..."
"Are you worried about Jennie knowing that you're part of the humiliation she'll suffer, while you also helped her to decorate Kai's head? Is your conscience heavy now?" she gathers the cards and gets closer to me.
"Krystal, please." I put a lock of hair behind my ear.
"You have two options, Kim, you help me and you continue your fairy tale, or you don't help me and these pictures will be scattered throughout the school." she smiles and I close my eyes. "What you want? End Jennie Kim's popularity and know that you were the reason for this? You can even take her place as the most popular girl." she slides the index finger on my jaw.
"I don't care about popularity." I say irritated and turn my face "Everyone knows, this is ridiculous for me."
"Said the person who became cheerleader. " she laughs again "Oh, I remember, you just did it to make an excuse and keep fucking with Jennie, or falling in love with her."
"Not talk like that!" I look at her again. "I cann't help you."
"It's so obvious how much you two are little bitches to each other. She wanted to kill me when she saw me with you, moments ago, and you couldn't help yourself in that show, that you gave to help her when she got hurt." she takes my chin and I take her wrist.
"I told you to stop!"
"I need to thank you, you did everyone a great favor at this school. Jennie's more tolerable and in a good mood since you started fucking her. And I remembered the trip, all the bruises on your body, Kim really must have spilled everything with you." She laughs and I can feel her breath hit my face, making me squeeze her wrist tighter.
"You have no idea what you're saying." I say through clenched teeth.
"Your love story doesn't interest me, Sooya, I'll give you 24 hours to give me an answer, but I bet it will come sooner than we both think." she laughs and her look is in my mouth "If I wasn't so focused on Kai, I would probably want to taste some of your honey."
"Like I'm going to do this." I push her and she laughs.
"Sooya, your level isn't very high, you're fucking the biggest bitch in school." she shakes her head "24 hours or right after your heart is broken." she leaves the room, leaving me alone with a card on the table.
What did Krystal mean by heartbreak? Isn't blackmail enough now, these puzzles?
My mind spins all morning around it and I can't understand anything. I can't pull a loose end to try to guess what she's talking about. Krystal's a step ahead of me and I hate it.
At lunchtime, everyone runs out to the cafeteria, as if there is something special being distributed there. I stop in my closet to get my jacket and put the card in my pocket, squeezing it tightly.
As soon as I walk in the door, I see that everyone is gathered around something. Whose stupidity will this time be? Don't think so, Kim Jisoo, someone may have been sick and you're having these mean thoughts.
"Be my date for the dance. There's no one I want to go with but you." Kai's clear voice and murmurs begin again. I push some people around until I can get to where they're, just long enough to hear what seems to come straight out of a nightmare.
"Yes." Jennie's voice comes out low, but completely audible.
Everyone around begins to celebrate as if we have won a champions. When Kai releases Jennie and our eyes meet, I don't know what I'm feeling the most. Hatred, hurt or sadness. I close my hands in fists because everything in me hurts.
It seems that I was hit by punches and kicks, several times, at the same time. I close my eyes trying to calm myself. This can only be a dream, but how much my heart is aching, tell me it's the damn reality.
"I told you that your heart would be broken, maybe you should believe me." I hear Krystal's soft voice in my ear. I open my eyes and turn to her.
"Now is not a good time for your jokes." I take a deep breath and rub my face.
"So? Any news?" she smiles widely.
"Prepare the show, Krystal, your moment to shine is closer than you think."
