Chapter 4
"Where were you?" Zayn asked, "You never showed up last night." "Oh. I stayed out late. Sorry." I said. "Oh. I get it." he said. He had a smile on his face like I did something perverted. "No I did not!" I said, knowing what he was thinking. "Sure," he said, sarcastically. We left for school and met up with Louis, Liam, and Niall.
We sat down for lunch, helping Niall with his many trays when Liam, who was sitting across from me, dropped his jaw, surprised. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around. That's why. It was Alison. "Can I talk to you?" she asked. Louis nudged me and I looked at him with a big fat 'No' on my face.
She led me outside with lunchroom and I felt Josh's eyes burn holes in me from his glare. "What the hell happened? You don't have to fake injury to leave! Next time tell me." I couldn't think of anything to say. I looked around and saw that no one could see us. "I don't know. All I know is that I can't see you anymore." I said. I regretted the words once they left my mouth. "No. If its because of Josh, don't let that stop you. I can deal with him." "No. I can't. I can't do this to myself." I said. I kissed her cheek and walked back to the lunchroom. I sat down and started to get bombarded by questions. "What did she say?" "What did you do?" I explained to them how she wanted to make up for Josh's first impression on me and how we went out. I told them that I didn't want to deal with Josh so I told her that I couldn't see her anymore. Except that wasn't the reason.
I couldn't see her because I would be constantly reminded of what I did to her. How I hurt her. I don't even remember what I did or if I did it. All I know is that I'm dangerous and I shouldn't be around a pretty girl on a full moon. I didn't want to risk another injury.
I went home with Zayn and tried to relax myself. I tried to tell myself it was for the better.
*Alison's POV*
I can't believe it. I try to make friends with the new kid and what does he do? Fakes a serious injury just to run into the woods and abandon me. Something about him was strange.
When I saw his eyes were golden yellow in color, it was like looking into the eyes of a beast. Like you want to be afraid but behind the beast, there was that faint glimmer of hope. There was that looked that screamed help but also danger. I want to help him. But how?
*Harry's POV*
I went to school, always seeing Alison in the halls, reminding me of the pain and scars I caused. I practically smelt myself when she passed by, and I couldn't get rid of the smell.
Josh didn't really bother me. When he wasn't with Alison, he sometimes pushed me into the lockers or pushed me on the ground. I wasn't upset or angry when he did it, I just took it like it was nothing. I was probably stronger than him but I didn't want to test myself. I don't want to hurt anyone.
One day in particular wasn't good for me. I didn't have much sleep because I had to study for a test. I walked to my class when Josh pushed me into the lockers again. Today I wouldn't take it. I went back to Josh, and pulled on his shoulder to turn him around. "Eat this, asswipe." I yelled with a growl as I punched him in the face, leaving him unconscious. His friend who walked next to him looked at me, afraid of me. I looked down and saw he didn't get up. I looked at my hands, knuckles smeared with fresh blood that wasn't mine.
In fear of myself, I ran, feeling a tear on my face. I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach, like I would change. I was confused because only changed on full moons, yet I was upset with myself because I promised myself I wouldn't hurt anyone. I didn't want to hurt anyone. I didn't want to be dangerous.
Zayn came home and asked why I left so early. "I may have done something I'll regret." I said. "Don't tell me you commuted some felony." "No. I ...uh... I punched someone." I started. "Who?" he asked somewhat excitedly, looking away from the mirror in the bathroom to me who was standing next to him. He was fixing his hair.
"Josh," I said. "Devine?" He asked. I didn't know any other Josh so I nodded. "Thank you Lord! You are our savior!" He yelled to me and hugged me. I was startled by his gesture. "Sorry. I got excited." he said, with a chuckle.
"It's not funny! I'm dangerous. I left him unconscious, laying in the hall. People saw and I'm practically expelled." I said, walking to the bed, with my head in my hands. He followed me to the bed, sitting next to me. "Hey. It's ok." "It's not!" I yelled standing up, "I'm dangerous. I'm lucky I didn't change in front of people or at all. I felt it but it didn't happen." He looked at me confused.
I realized what I said. No way around this. "Change?" he asked. "Shit. Yea. I have to tell you about that. And the others." "About what?" he asked. "You won't believe me until I show you." I said. "Tell me though." he pressured. I looked at my calendar and the next full moon was in a week. "I'll show you in a week." I said. "Styles. Tell me. Now. I'm leaving until you do." he said, stubbornly.
I sighed. I smelled the air. I could smell a rabbit near the house. I loved rabbit. "There's a rabbit near the trash cans on the side of the house." "What?" I pointed to the door, signaling him to go check for himself. I wish I was wolf so I could eat it. Rabbit was my favorite to sell because I loved the taste of rabbit. Deer is a close second. He came back a few minutes later, holding the rabbit I foretold him about.
"How?" I took the rabbit from him and bit it's neck, cutting off its air. He looked at me shocked. "I thought those were fake." I let go of the rabbit, knowing it was dead already. "No. Apparently not. Cuz I am. I'm-" "A fucking werewolf." he finished.
I took a bite into the rabbit. "Hey, hey. No blood on the carpet. My mom will kill you." he warned. He went downstairs and brought back napkins. "Thanks." I said, wiping my face. "Yea. I'm a werewolf. I never wanted to call myself one because they were so popular now. Like everyone wants to date one. It's weird."
"Can you like-" "Tell you everything about me. About my kind. I don't even know. I'm learning everything by myself. I don't know anybody else who is. I only know of myself." I continued to tell him about what it feels like to change. What it's like being a half of a huge dog.
"I don't always eat animals like that. Just when I'm wolf. But I was starving and it was right there." I whined. Zayn laughed.
"And it's been just you for 4 years?" "Yea." "Dude. Life's tough on you." he said. I nodded. "What are we going to do?" he asked. I shrugged. "Can I tell the others?" he asked. "I will. They're not blabber mouths, are they? Obviously you've known them longer." I said. "No. They can keep secrets." he said.
