Chapter 39

*Dakota's POV*

I fluttered my eyes open, feeling a sharp pain in my neck. I reached back, patting the skin to find a piece of glass.

I slowly took it out, reaching beneath the layer of damaged skin to remove it.

I flicked it away with a groan, standing up and brushing myself off.

I went to the bathroom to get a band-aid for the cut, only to find Liam with his knees tucked under his head and his arms wrapped around them.

He was sitting in the bathroom corner, emotionless and scared.

His eyes were red as well as his cheeks from crying. He looked like he hadn't slept in days.

"Liam?"

"NO!" He screamed, running past me hiding somewhere else. I followed him though, able to keep up with his speed.

Liam was the strongest but I was the fastest.

He kept trying to avoid me. Eventually as he ran towards the bedroom, I caught him, spinning him around and pushing him to the floor, my hands at his wrists.

"Liam. What's wrong?"

"NO! NO! Let me go!" He pushed at my chest and pried my hands from his wrists to no avail.

"Not until you tell me what's going on!" I ordered.

What was with him? I don't remember a thing but something happened to him. Something of a nightmare.

"I don't want to kill you!"

"What do you mean kill me? What happened?"

He caught his breath and stopped trying to escape me grasp. He looked up to me, worried about something.

"You don't remember anything do you?" He asked.

I shook my head cautiously.

"Niall's gone. He left because he couldn't take it. The blood. The hunger. He left me."

Liam started to cry more, tears lining his eyelids. I helped him up, enveloping him in a hug.

He hugged back, pushing me away after a few seconds.

I grabbed his wrist before I would have to find him again.

"I can't. I don't wanna hurt you." He warned.

"You're not going to hurt me." I demanded. I trust him more than this. He can work through his wolf side. Why was he so cautious of himself now?

"I don't know how unpredictable I am. I don't wanna snap at you."

"You've been controlling your inner-wolf for years. Why are you doing this now?" I asked.

He was the original wolf. He was born into this. I was created. I was brought into this. I could have left when I got the chance. Yet I didn't. There was a difference between us.

What was it?

"That's not what I'm talking about."

"Then, what?" I asked. He got silent, his eyes threatening waterworks again.

"Before Niall left. He... He bit me." Liam stuttered.

All the anger in me just bursted. I could feel my eyes heating and a growl threatening to escape my throat. I was going to kill him.

"That son of a bitch." I cursed, looking off.

"Wait. Dakota. Look." He pulled me by my chin and made me see his eyes.
