First Sight (Marina)

Chapter 2

Maya sighed in content as she felt the warm water hit her skin and relax her muscles as she showered after finishing her report, all throughout her shower she couldn't stop thinking about the moment she had with the OB, it was bugging her how much she keeps thinking of her, and how she can't get her eyes out of her head, and the feelings she felt when she looked into her eyes.

As she was drying herself and making her way out of the showers she saw Andy in the locker rooms, wearing her clothes before she leaves, but she stopped her by asking "Hey, you are awfully quiet after today's rescue, are you sure you are okay?"

Maya replied "Yes I'm just bummed out that we didn't find her the first time, and what would've happened if we never knew she was missing, we need to do drills concerning this issue because I cannot tolerate another mistake like this"

Andy nodded understandingly and added "But it wasn't our fault, we weren't responsible for search and rescue, station 23 was, we were on taking the fire out, so don't beat yourself over it".

"I know but just in case, I don't want it to ever happen to our station"Maya replied as she made her way out of the locker room towards the captain's bunk so she would change her clothes and go home. But still, she couldn't take brown eyes out of her head, so she decided to pass by the hospital to know what happened to the OB and if she is okay.

As she made her way down a couple of blocks from the station, she entered the Grey-Sloan hospital as they tidied up the triage and returned the patients to their unaffected rooms, while closing off the OB floor. Maya went to the front desk and asked the nurse " hey do you know if there is a red headed doctor here almost the same height as me, and very hyper?" the nurse quickly responded "Oh! Dr.Kepner is the trauma surgeon here, I'll page her for you, she shouldn't be busy right now"

"Thank you" Maya quietly replied as she waited in the chair, finally feeling the exhaustion coming over her, she started to close her eyes and drift off to sleep but she suddenly spotted the red head and stood up to tell her why she needed her but the doctor was much faster at talking and said "Oh my god are you okay? Are you breathing fine? Do your lungs hur- " Maya cut off the doctor in front of her by holding her hands in front of her "I'm fine" she chuckled, "I just wanted to check on the OB I pulled out earlier, is she okay? Are there any other severe injuries? She seemed to have it pretty bad, and I was surprised she survived the explosion as she was in the office next to the OR."

"Yeah she is okay, thank you for rescuing her, Dr.DeLuca is very talented and has the purest soul, I cannot thank you enough for getting back in there and getting her, I cannot disclose to you about her injuries as it is doctor-patient confidentiality, but she is okay, we transported her to Mercy West Hospital because we don't have anymore rooms here but our doctors keep checking on her and make sure she is ok, if you want you can check on her there, I guess she would like to thank you personally, and again thank you" Dr.Kepner explained to Maya.

"Hey don't worry it is my job to rescue her, stop thanking me, I am just glad she is okay, I wont bother her, she must be very tired" Maya replied and quickly made her way out of the hospital as she gave Dr.Kepner a small wave and smile as she made her way back home, sighing loudly because she has to face Jack who will bombard her with unnecessary questions when all she wants to do is rest after that stressful shift.

Maya closed the door to her apartment as she saw Jack in the kitchen, with a mess around him, she sighed heavily as she saw that she has to clean up after him later. When Jack noticed her he said in a high voice "Hey! I made you coffee just like you like it, and I'm working on breakfast, come eat" Maya replied annoyingly "Jack I just came back from a long shift as you know and I cannot wait to go sleep because I am exhausted, I will not eat or drink coffee right now" and made her way to their room quickly, changed into comfortable wear and threw herself under the covers, she fell asleep quickly but the last thing her brain thought of before drifting off to sleep were those damn brown eyes.

Maya woke up a couple of hours later, in time for a late lunch, she saw Jack on the couch watching TV silently and went into the kitchen, thankfully seeing that Jack cleaned after himself. She spooned some lunch into her plate and made her way to where Jack was and sat next to him. She noticed his quiet demeanor and frown on his face and asked him jokingly before starting to eat her lunch "What's got your panties in a twist?" he replied "Nothing" quietly but Maya knew he was lying because he is never that quiet, she nudged him with her foot playfully and asked again trying to lighten the mood "Come on you can tell me or ask me anything, what's wrong?" he turned his head towards her and she can see the anger in his eyes, so she stopped acting playfully and frowned as in asking him what is wrong again. "Where were you after you left the station earlier?" he asked, she replied "What do you mean?" ," I need to know where you went, because it doesn't take you this long from the station to here from the time you texted me you were leaving, are you cheating on me? I need to know before we get married next week" Maya's eyes widened as she almost choked on her food and spit it out, "Woah chill what, no I was not cheating on you! I went to the hospital after leaving the station to check on the girl I rescued earlier because I was curious how she was doing and how she survived the explosion since it was in the room next to her office, do not accuse me of cheating ever again, you know I don't do that kind of stuff"

"Then why were you treating me like shit?" Jack retaliated, Maya raised her voice a little not believing the words that are coming out of her soon to be husband's mouth "I was doing my job, and you were bombarding me with useless questions when I needed to be focused, you know how agitated I get when I lose my focus, especially when I'm on a rescue mission" Jack stayed quiet knowing that she was right and he was overreacting for no reason so he replied softly " I'm sorry, I know you don't like it when I do that, but I was worried for you, I didn't want anything to happen to you a week before our wedding, I'm just excited"

Maya nodded understandingly and continued eating her lunch quietly while watching whatever was on the TV, while the brown eyed OB is still on her mind.
