First Sight (Marina)

Chapter 7

It was now a couple of weeks after Maya and Jack discovered that they cannot have children, they did not utter a word to each other, both of them silent, distancing themselves from each other, Maya only addressed him as 'Gibson' when they were working on a scene, nothing more than that. 

The whole team noticed the tension between the two, awkward silence befalling on them whenever they saw both of them in the same room. 

Maya hasn't been back to the house she shared with Jack ever since, she couldn't stand looking at him, she crashed at the station every night, Jack seemed unbothered by the absence of his wife, as if she never existed.

"Hey cap, someone is here to see you" Vic said as she popped her head into Maya's office pulling her out of her thoughts as she was focused on the paperwork in front of her. 

Blue eyes fell on the brunette she has been yearning to see for a long time, her heart sped up, face flushed, smile making her way to her face.

 "Hey, I am surprised to see you here, is there anything you need?" Maya asked as she made her way around her desk, standing in front of Carina.

"No, I am okay, I just wanted pass by to check up on you and see how you are doing, I had a break and didn't know what to do, so I found myself at the front door of the station" Carina replied nervously.

"Yeah I am uh doing fine, just a lot of stress from work, people not being careful around flame and stuff" Maya replied losing herself in the warm pools of honey, feeling all the stress and worries go off of her shoulders, suddenly both women were startled by the klaxon horn going off, demanding the engine, ladder, and aid car.

 "I have got to go, but I hope to see you around more" Maya said slowly pointing behind her, trying to get herself out of the trance she was in, as she turned around to leave her office she was stopped by a hand around her wrist making her attention go to the brunette in front of her, "Be careful" Carina said quietly before letting the blonde go.

 Maya quietly nodded with a soft smile on her face as she left. 

Carina was actually worried about Maya, she knew her job was dangerous, and didn't want anything to happen to her.

"Uh, hey I am sorry, but civilians are not allowed inside the captain's office, so if you please leave" Jack said as he noticed Carina standing inside Maya's office trying to recover from the intense blue eyes that were on her.

 "I'm sorry I was just visiting, she just left, I am leaving don't worry..." Carina stretched out her words as she was insinuating that she wants to know the name of the firefighter in front of her.

 "Oh Jack, Lieutenant Jack Gibson..." Jack replied.

"Oh lieutenant shouldn't you be going with them to the scene?" Carina asked as she processed the information she got, mentally noting to herself to hate his guts because of what he caused to Maya. 

"I'm on desk duty today, captain has been busting my balls lately, not on very good terms..., anyways what brings a beautiful woman like you to the captain's office this fine morning?" Jack said while eyeing Carina up and down, clearly checking her out, Carina felt disgusted and uncomfortable under his gaze.

 "Would you like to go on a drink sometime?" Jack added.

"Aren't you married?" Carina questioned as she pointed to the ring on his hand, his face fell, but he didn't care.

He replied "Well it is not bad to have some fun on the side from time to time, you know" with a smug on his face.

 Carina wanted to slap the smug off of his face but she had to control herself, so she decided to reply with a 'as a matter of fact' tone "Well Jack, no I don't want to go for a drink with you, because telling from your intentions, you are a disloyal self-centered asshole that does not respect his wife or captain, not worth my time, and by the way, I vouch for the other team" Carina said as she angrily made her way out of the station, slamming the door behind her, not believing she is refraining herself from loving the blonde and giving her what she deserves because of this asshole.
