First Sight (Marina)

Chapter 24

 "Babe" whispered Maya as she pressed a soft kiss on the brunette's forehead attempting to wake her up.

"Mhm" hummed Carina as she tucked her face deeper into the blonde's neck trying to go back to sleep.

"Come on babe, we gotta get up" whispered Maya again.

"Maya I swear if you are waking me up to go on a run with you in the ass crack of dawn I will kill you" grumbled Carina still cuddling closer into Maya trying to fall back to sleep.

Maya just chuckled and said, "We have to get up and get ready for work, besides you love me too much to kill me".

The brunette huffed in annoyance when she realized she actually had to get up and get ready, pressing a chaste loving kiss on Maya's lips before going to get ready.

"Go kickass captain" said Carina leaning in to kiss the fire captain as she dropped her at the station before she makes her way to the hospital.

"I will visit later today, I will pass by your office then we can go check on Vic, I love you" replied Maya before opening her door and making her way to the driver's window.

"I love you too bambina, can't wait to see you again" said Carina before giving her one last smooch through the window like usual.

As Maya entered the station she saw Jack exiting the turn-out room.

"Gibson we need to talk my office,now!" she demanded as she entered her office.

"Oh now you want to talk?" he said as he stood in the door way.

"Drop the attitude lieutenant, if you even deserve that title anymore, this is regarding the incident that happened with you and Hughes" she replied while reorganizing her desk the way she liked it.

"A beam fell off and trapped her leg. Simple" he shrugged as if it was not a big deal.

"No it is not simple! You were paired together, you were supposed to be there with her and help her out, not leave your post putting yourself and your partner in danger!" she replied frustrated at how insensitive and cold he has become.

"Oh so now you care about me?" Jack said pushing his captain's buttons.

Maya let out a deep sigh trying to figure what she should do with him.

"Gibson I am putting you on mandatory leave, take one week off, figure your shit out, maybe even take more time off, when you feel better and more focused then you are allowed to come back to active duty" she decided it is for the best right now.

"You cant just do that, I am fine" he replied snapping back while pointing to himself.

"No you're not, you need to deal with whatever you are dealing with, I don't know what's going on with you but you're not working until you're in the right headspace, you are putting yourself and others in danger, and that is not how I expect a lieutenant to act, final decision. Dismissed" she sternly told him her decision and that there is no room for discussion.

"Whatever" he grumbled as he left the office.

Maya sighed a sigh of relief having this situation handled better than imagined.

The day was very slow.

The laboring mothers were hours and hours away from being ready to give birth, and it doesn't seem like there are any interesting general surgeries to scrub into or watch so both the DeLuca siblings were sat in the attending's lounge bored out of their minds.
