Long ago, there was a war between the humans, and an alliance between Dragons, Griffins, and Hippocampi. It lasted many years. Casualties were great in number on both sides. It finally ended when a peace treaty was signed. Every year, three eggs from all three Powerful Beings would be partnered with nine human boys ages fifteen and older.
But, like all good things, there were those who opposed it. A group was created to restart the war. Their leader cursed the treaty so that every year, there would be one child who would partner under the required age. He destroyed all records of the exact day the treaty was signed in hopes of making it so the eggs would be brought in at different times of year, but they found a way around it. He hoped to anger the Powerful Beings. Make them think they were being cheated. He kidnapped every Underaged child and made them cause havoc. That was many centuries ago.
