Tsukishima Kei

I wake up to the sound of slightly heavy breathing and small grunts.

Grabbing my glasses off of Athena's nightstand, I sit up in her bed and look around. It's 6:30am and only the bathroom light is on.

Today is her birthday, I should have brought over the present I got for her when I came over yesterday.

Memories of what happened last night suddenly flood through my head and my eyes widen. That was a dream...right?

I quickly get up, walking over to the bathroom as coolly as I can. Pushing the door open with no thoughts, my eyes squint at the light and I rub them.

"Ah, you're awake? Morning." She looks over at me with an icepack in her hand.

"Morni-" I pause when I look at myself in the mirror. Two dark hickeys rest on the left side of my neck. "Goodbye."

I walk back out of the bathroom, laying down face first on her mattress.

What the fuck? So it was real. Okay. That's fine. It's not like I like her or anything. But why do I feel weird inside? And why is my stupid face getting hot?

Ah, maybe I'm dying. Yes. This is death alright. In more ways than one.

Kanai Athena

"Kei? Are you tired or something?" I walk back out into the room, holding the icepack. "We need to leave for school soon. I got rid of the hickey! Look!" I jump onto the bed next to him, excitedly pointing at my neck.

He sits up, looking at me. His eyes slightly widens and he reaches out to touch my neck.

"What the hell? It kind of looks inflamed but how did you do that?" He asks and my eyes brighten.

"I saw a tik tok showing how to do it and it worked! Let me do yours now. Good thing you don't have morning practice today." I chuckle, climbing onto his lap.

I press the ice pack to his neck and hold it there, putting my other hand on his shoulder to steady myself.

"Are you okay?" My eyebrows furrow when I see his neck and face are red. His skin feels hot and he's avoiding eye contact. "Are you sick?"

"Y-Yeah." He clears his throat. "I'm not feeling too well." He grabs me and pushes me onto my mattress, quickly standing up.

"Are you leaving?" I ask and he nods without saying much. "Hey, don't you have something to tell me?" I put the icepack down and walk over to him.

"Yeah. Bye."

I tilt my head, deciding to let it go. I give him a quick tight hug before pulling away.

"Bye. Er...thank you?" I say awkwardly and he starts walking out. "I'll walk you to the door!" I quickly say, following behind him.

Why is he acting so weird?

I watch as he climbs down the stairs and puts his shoes on. Just as he reaches for the door, the bell rings. I step in front of him, opening it myself.

"Delivery for Kanai-San?" The man says then looks up at me. "Oh. I must be at the wrong house. Sorry."

"No, I'm Kanai." I reply and the man looks shocked.

"O-Okay. Here." He hands me a bouquet of roses.

After thanking him I shut the door, quickly looking at the note.

"Happiest of birthdays to you, I can't wait to celebrate tonight. From, Suna R." I read out loud, a wide smile coming over my face. I look up at Kei, bouncing excitedly on the balls of my feet. "It's happening! Kei!! Our practice won't be for nothing!" I joke, giggling like a little girl.
