Friday afternoon shadowed over the school, the skies once again were blinded with thick fog. The sunshine hid behind the layers of grey, the atmosphere and the ground darkened as the sun disappeared.

Impatient students glanced at the clock every now and then as they waited for the final bell to ring. Jittering legs jumped up and down, their pencils repeatedly tapped on the desk.

I huffed. The exciting aroma irritated me in a way I've always felt when one of Christy's parties neared. The crazy event would happen every weekend, yet everyone praised it in a brainwashed shout of joy. It would really tire your day.

I gazed back and found Harry's seat empty. I pursed my lips admonishingly. Why did he only come in for one day, then skip the rest of the week? What's the whole point of school if he wasn't going to learn anything? It didn't make any sense at all.

Him not being here both infuriated and confused me. It was his second week of school, so why not show up? I know I shouldn't dwell on this, but I was so curious to know why.

Have you heard of the saying "Curiosity killed the cat?" His question from yesterday popped in my head. I knew my curiosity was bigger than it should, but why would he feel the need to keep secrets?

I jumped in my seat as the roar of the bells alarmed in my ears. Everyone stood and nearly ran out of the classroom. I quickly stuffed my books in my bag and casually walked out the door. As soon as I left the classroom, Mia nearly ran into me.

Her smile was wide as she approached me. "Ready for tonight?"

"I hope so." I murmured.

She shoulder had bumped into mine. "Don't be such a party pooper. It'll be fun."

I rolled my eyes at the simple thought of "having fun." The kind of fun she spoke of wasn't something I was interested in, but I hadn't expect her to understand.

"And," she continued on. "I bet you don't have a clue on what costume you'll wear tonight."

I never pondered on the thought of having a costume. I thought high schoolers were over the fact of getting dressed up on Halloween. The slight nerves of not being prepared overwhelmed me.

"Don't worry," Camille creeped in, patting my back as I gasped in fright. "I got the perfect look for you."

"Jesus Cam," I said and laughed shakily. "I hate when you do that."

She laughed and grabbed my wrist. "Come on, let's head over to your place."

We made it to my house hours before the party started. Mom wasn't home, which silenced my worry. If she found out what we were doing, it wouldn't go lightly. The "ditching" thing fumed her anger, and I didn't want this to throw her into her grave. I opened the front door as we all walked in together. Once we had made it to my bedroom, Camille had shut the door.

"Sit down here." Mia instructed. I sat on my bed as I knotted my hands in my lap. They started talking about hair and makeup, something I haven't mastered wholly. They held small pouches and a hair curler and placed them on my study desk.

Mia stood in front of me, and took the band out of my hair. As she fluffed my hair, her eyes averted to Harry's white rose.

"Wow, that's gorgeous." She said as her eyes were fixed on the flower. Camille gazed at the rose as well and fell silent.
