Dawn had soon passed and the birds began to chirp from beyond the hotel. Light sparkled brightly as they danced with the tree's branches and leaves, coloring the morning sky from the outside, but not from within. The walls and vile furniture remained dusty and shadowed, creeping into my skin in terror. Both Harry and Chalice prowled further into the vast corridor, keeping me "safe" from what had lied beyond those halls. Chalice gave me a reassuring smile, and snatched a crisped blanket from a chair, covering the body of the lurker. Even when it's eyes were hidden before me, I could still feel it's remorse and misery from the evil events that corrupted his soul and mind. Chills continued to run down my spine in terrible sorrow.
In the shadowed halls, Harry's and Chalice's light from their blades illuminated the rooms they had stepped in. I remained rigid and cold in the middle of the corridor, watching particles of dust to float down from the ceiling to the tattered floors. I tugged on my sleeves nervously as I waited impatiently for their return. The stairs continued to creak and the shattered windows continued to squeal from the wind rushing in.
Flies roamed the eerie atmosphere, slyly buzzing towards the crisp blanket and the puddle of blood circling around it. A numerous amount of flies crept and flapped their wings in delight on the grey blanket, as if deciding it was their new home. The sight nearly had my stomach churning. Some fell and swam in the thick blood of the lurker, and struggled to break free. Instantly, I looked away. Roaches and worms began to slime their way towards the putrid body as well, but I tried to take my mind off it. The air proceeded to smell like wet wood and boiled eggs, but the smell of blood and decomposition grew larger than both combined.
As I relentlessly waited, a sound abruptly cluttered from the floors above. I scarcely looked up.
A woman, tall and frail, stood behind the balcony's railing. Her face hid behind the dirty strands of her hair and her grimy white dress showed the pale skin from underneath. She cocked her head sideways once I had done the same, then she slowly lifted her scaly hand from the railing and pointed directly at me. I stared at her in angst, confusion soon following suit. Within mere seconds, she had picked herself up and over the railing, her toes dangling off the balcony. I gasped and looked towards Harry and Chalice's direction, but they never heard the creaks the woman had made. She lifted her finger to her lips, her other hand beckoning me towards her.
Cautiously, I moved from where I stood and up the steps, watching her as she watched me. Once I had walked towards the railings, her body had faced me. She was dirtier from up close, and her clothes held stains of scarlet. In her pale skin was numerous of scars, some fading, and some bleeding. My feet planted far from her as possible, but she wasn't satisfied from where I stood. Her finger had pointed at the railings in demand.
Shakily, my feet carried me closer, closer until my fingers could touch the chipping wood of the railings. We stared at each other for a moment. Her eyes were as light as the sun, yet they never shared the purity the sun had held. Her scars scraped deep into her flesh, the blood now gushing out from all that could be seen. Blood soaked her dress and dripped down to the floor from below. Soon, a small smile had formed on her pale lips, a slight form of happiness shaping in the crinkles 'round her mouth. The smile sent chills along my skin, but oddly warmth soon followed suit. Her hands, bony and unclean, lifted from the rails and caressed the hair hanging on my shoulders. I flinched in her touch, but my feet remained still.
