The lighting of the room was dim and blunt as it let in a calming ambience. Curtains hid the pale snow that melted ever so slowly into the earth. The furniture seemed mature and pleasing once I had stepped into my therapist's office. Everything was chilling to the touch, like cool metal benches sitting outside of a storm.

He looked at me with an examining eye, his wrinkled hands resting comfortingly on his notepad. I shifted nervously in my chair.

"The last time you were here," Dr. Santiago said slowly. "You said your dreams had stopped."

I gazed down to my tangled fingers. "I did." I replied quietly.

"Why did you lie?" He questioned in monotone.

When I hadn't answered, he opened his pen and began to scribble down his thoughts. Once he closed his pen, he waited patiently for my answer.

I sighed. "They were gone...for awhile."

"But you knew they'd come back, didn't you?"

My silence once again had him write in his leather notepad, his words large and time-consuming. Dr. Santiago began to flip to previous pages and skimmed through his notes of my appointments with him from before.

"Have you been taking your medicine?' He finally questioned.

My cheeks flushed. "I'm not crazy."

"I'm supposing that's a no, then." He said and opened his pen.

I huffed. "Can we move on, please? My family is heading over to the airport soon, and I have to be there." The thought of them leaving me behind once again had me in a peeve. I clamped my hands together tightly.

Dr. Santiago flipped to a clean page and rose his dark eyes towards me. "Alright," He said. "Tell me what had happened in your recent dream."

I sucked in a breath. Trying to speed things up hadn't made me realize I had to reminisce the nightmare. I spoke slowly as I picked up the pieces of the dream. "I was sitting next to my window when Missy came in. She spoke about having a nightmare and when I asked her what had happened, she said I wasn't ready yet and a man told her to keep it a secret."

"She brought me to her room to show me who the man was, but no one was there. I walked back to my room, alone, to find a dark shadow had appeared. He attacked me and said..." I paused. Telling Dr. Santiago what the shadow had said would conclude him to think something was seriously wrong with me. Frankly, I sort of believe it myself.

"What did he say?" He pressed on.

I stuttered for an answer. "He said he was going to kill me, that's all." I half lied.

He hummed in determination and scribbled down some notes. Dr. Santiago looked up and smiled professionally. "The dream could possibly mean that you're afraid to...face some thing's that circles your life. You're terrified that it might consume you if you let it have control over you."

I sat there quietly with a look of confusion. He continued on quickly. "Or, this could mean that possibly you're having troubles with someone that's difficult to handle. Dreams are messages that are trying to make you realize what you need to do in reality, yet it's a hard test to master. Once you figure out the truth behind the dream, they'll go away." He paused and gazed down to his watch. "I believe this session is over."
