"Natalie!" I sprung up in dazed panic. The rose fell from my chest and onto the carpet floor. Loud knocking was suddenly heard behind the cherry wood of my door. I quickly scrambled out of bed.
"The rose." I said quietly to myself, stopping in my tracks. I grabbed the rose and quickly hid it under the dark blue bedsheets before swinging the door open.
My mother's exhausted expression came to view once I had opened the door.
"Heavens Natalie, I've been calling you non stop, how come you didn't here me?" She placed her hands on her hips, her frown disapproving.
"Sorry, I just took a nap." I quickly explained.
"For six hours?" She asked unbelievably.
"What?" I turn towards my alarm clock, seeing that it was nearly eight in the evening. I couldn't have slept for six hours, could I?
She gave me a long look."Natalie, are your dreams coming back?"
I gazed down at my toes. "It's nothing, mother. They're just...dreams." I tried to assure her, yet I knew my dreams were difficult for me to handle. Hardly, it was difficult for anyone else to handle.
She peers up at the ceiling, as if to give out a short prayer. She looked back at me. "Listen Natalie..." Promptly, she paused, and stared into my eyes with a hint of sadness.
"Dinner is ready. Come down stairs and eat something." Her soft voice had said as she urged me to follow her.
I bit my lip, then looked over to my bed, seeing the rose poking out of the bed sheets. I hesitantly closed the door and scurried down the stairs.

My eyes were heavy as I dragged my feet through the corridors of the school. The six hour nap I had kept me awake most of the night. As much as I would like to convince myself that my nap was the only reason for my sleepless night, it wasn't. I couldn't help but to keep admiring the rose last night. I didn't know what it was, but my eyes never tore away from the carnation.I walked towards my locker wearily to find Christy waiting for me there. She smiled wide, as if the corners of her lips were lifted automatically.
"Hey there Natalie!" She punched my shoulder playfully and giggles softly.
"Hi..." I rub the tire out of my eyes as I tried prying my locker open. It took me a couple of tries to succeed on opening the door.
"You better put concealer under your eyes to cover 'em bags, sugar." She said cheerfully, her southern accent thick.
"Thanks for the tip." I murmured annoyingly before opening my locker completely.
"So I was wondering," She started, her eyes locked in my neatly cleaned locker. "If you can come to Cracker Barrel with me and the rest of the gang during lunch. Don't worry, I'm paying." She smiled as she was pleased with her familie's fortune.
"Well, I don't know..." I said. I slid out a history book and shut the locker door completely.
"Oh c'mon Nat, I really want you to come. I know that you don't like me very much, but I still want to be friends." She pouted, which had me feel guilt.
"Christy, I do like you as a friend. But-"
"So, your going to come?"
I determined to myself silently as I looked at Christy with pursed lips. Both her eyes and cheeks smiled happily at the thought of me coming.
I sighed. "Fine, I'll go."
"Oh splendid! See you then!" She clapped her hands in glee and sashayed down the hall. I rolled my eyes before heading to class.
