The sun began to descend the pale sky once I had closed the front door. After Harry left my house with a roaring screech of his motorcycle, I found myself utterly useless in my own home. I had tried taking a small nap, but the smell of Harry's aroma remained in my sheets and pillows, engulfing me with his rich scent. I huffed and scrambled in bed to only slip out and eat something instead.

It was mid-day now, with the soaring of planes up ahead, I walked down my block in my worn out sneakers. The park had children playing about as I passed by. A detachable couple laid in the grass as they held each other lovingly. Flashes of Harry and I laying in the exact same spot passed through my muse. I shook my head in irritation. Immediately, my phone sounded in my pocket. I pulled it out with numb fingers.

"Hey Natalie," Aaron voiced through the phone. "Where were you? I thought you said you were coming to school today."

"I did, but," I paused in hesitation. "Things change."

It was silent for a moment before he had spoken again. "Well, I hope everything's okay. I just wanted to call to see if you were alright."

"I'm fine, Aaron." I assured him, yet a voice in my mind had me question if I truly was. I quickly changed the subject. "Did you get any news from Mia?"

"Yea, yesterday I texted her and she told me she had the flu. I wanted to drop by so we could watch some movies and eat milk duds together." I heard the crackling of a candy bag sounding through the phone.

"I don't think milk duds will help her with her illness, Aaron." I pointed out in amusement.

"It's not for Mia, it's for us. If...you want to come." His bright voice dimmed once he'd thrown out his suggestion.

I shrugged. "Sure, I'll be there soon."

"Okay, I'll meet you there."

He hanged up first. As I wrapped myself in my own warmth, I turn a few long corners to find Mia's home sitting quietly in her neighborhood. Her lights were off and her parent's cars weren't parked in their driveway; probably still at work. I ambled up the steps and ranged her doorbell. Nothing, not even a sound of footsteps came to open the door. My knuckles met the Prussian wood as I waited patiently.

Suddenly, the sound of glass clashed onto the hardwood floor, like a vase had been knocked over gratingly. The sound had me jump in my place.

"Mia?" I called. Large thumping of footsteps echoed through the house. Slight panic started to rise. I quickly rummaged through the plant near the door, finding the hidden key in the dirt. I felt I'd be trespassing, but the eerie feeling inside was much stronger.

"Mia, I'm coming in." I exclaimed before sliding the key in the lock to open the door.

The house seemed empty, with the furniture standing still and quiet. I slowly dragged my feet inside and closed the door behind me. A cracking noise immediately started below me. The remains of the vase that had stood on the small round table was shattered into numerous pieces. Even the white roses had spilled onto the floor, it's petals discarded from the stem.

"Mia?" I called once again. "Mia, where are you?"

A harsh shut of a door rumbled upstairs. I quickly ascended the steps and found myself at the fore of Mia's bedroom. Once my foot had planted on the carpet floor, I felt it. The unearthly rawness sizzled at my skin, like small sharp knives had scraped my chilling spine. And the foul whiff of something so gruesome that seemed to have been sitting out for ages, turning into something so spoiled and old. Even the dead carcass of a deer uncle Xavier found once wasn't so ghastly as this smell. I quickly covered my nose with my sleeve before I had reached the doorknob.
