IT WAS AFTER SCHOOL, Y/n was walking alone in the courtyard. She did this almost every evening, whenever she needed time to be by herself. Being with the same three people every second of the day could be quite overwhelming for her sometimes.
She felt a light breeze of air – also seeing the leaves move. She inhaled deeply and exhaled, feeling the fresh air. Y/n then sat down on the grass, watching the orange sky as the sun set.
She chuckled to herself – fantasizing about love. If she had a partner, it would be romantic as ever to watch the pretty sunset like this.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. Y/n turned back to see a Hufflepuff, Jace Wood.
He approached her with a polite smile. "Could i sit with you?" he asked. Y/n returned the smile, agreeing, "Go on."
He sat down beside her, as Y/n continued to stare off into the sunset. Jace couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was – as the orange light wash over her.
He cleared his throat and said, "Y/n, right?" Jace held his hand out, offering it to her. "That's correct," she nodded, shaking his hand, "I know you're Jace Wood."
"Now i know what you're thinking," he chuckled, "Don't be fooled, i'm not a quidditch maniac like my brother is." Y/n laughed along with him, nodding, "My brother JJ told me. Speaking of him, i miss Oliver."
Jace's eyebrows furrowed, not being aware of just how close Y/n and Oliver were. "You two were friends?" he asked. "Yeah," she nodded, "He and JJ were really close, being in the quidditch team and all, so i also hung out with him here and there."
"That's cool," Jace smiled, "So i heard a lot from Emma about you. You're really close with your brother, huh?" "Yeah," Y/n nodded, "He's one of my best friends."
Jace looked down to his lap – frowning. "I wish i had that with my brother," he murmured. Y/n could see that Jace didn't mean for her to listen – and she didn't want to bring sensitive stuff up.
"Saw your little fight with Potter yesterday," said Jace as he looked up again, changing the subject completely. "You two really don't get along, do you?"
Y/n shook her head, as her memory refreshed to remember the interactions she'd had with Harry Potter. They'd never talked before and suddenly they were nemesis for no apparent reason, really.
"Why is that?" Jace questioned. "In my opinion, he thinks he's so cool – so special – supreme. He thinks he's above everyone else, and people keep boosting his ego," she ranted. "He's just Harry, you know," Y/n shrugged nonchalantly, "His mother saved him."
They soon saw another Hufflepuff jogging towards them. Cedric Diggory.
Both Y/n and Jace stood up as Cedric approached them with a grin on his face.
His hair was ruffled from the wind – his yellow tie was untangled – and the prefect badge on his robe was crooked.
"Oh, hey, Y/n!" Cedric greeted, "I see you've met Jace." Jace looked at Cedric and Y/n, asking, "You two know each other?"
"JJ and i used to hang out last year – don't know why we're not doing that anymore," said Cedric quite gloomily.
"Let's just say my brother could get a little envious," Y/n shrugged before asking, "Hey, are you guys entering the tournament?"
"I'm underage, so no," Jace replied. "I am," Cedric said, making Y/n turn to him. "Ced, don't you think that's a little bit dangerous?" she asked worriedly.
"I'm up for danger," he shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm just saying, it's not too late to think about this and reconsider," Y/n advised.
"I'll be fine, Y/n," Cedric reassured, "Besides, it's no guarantee i'm competing yet."
"Are you entering the tournament?" Jace turned to ask Y/n. "Heavens, no," she replied, shaking her head, "JJ and Ben are going to try though."
"Well, if one of us wins, we'll get eternal glory!" Cedric exclaimed, grinning, "How exciting is that?
"You can't really enjoy eternal glory if you're dead," Y/n mumbled, but the two Hufflepuffs unfortunately heard her. They both looked at Y/n with raised eyebrows – not saying anything.
Feeling the awkwardness, she decided that it was time to go.
"Anyways, it was nice to meet you, Jace," she said to Jace before turning to Cedric, "And it was good to catch up with you too, Cedric."
"My pleasure," Jace smiled.
"Tell JJ that we should hang out sometime, alright?" said Cedric, Y/n nodded as she walked away, "Will do."
