Whitepaw was sleeping. The tom dreamt a great dream of hunting mice and squirrels. However, the dream was interrupted by the hurtful movements in the real world. Whitepaw jerked back to reality. He was outside the den with Blackpaw, Shadepaw, and Darkpaw looming over him. "What do you guys want?" Whitepaw asked the three dark cats. "We want you gone," Blackpaw hissed. "W-what?" Whitepaw asked confusingly. Blackpaw thrusted his face in his brother's. "You're ruining the plan. Nightmist's plan." The cats started moving, forcing Whitepaw to back up into the forest and not noticing Lightpaw stir in the medicine den.
After a while, Whitepaw heard water behind him. He turned around and gasped. They were at the border to RiverClan territory. Whitepaw's heartbeat quickened. "No," he whispered, and then exclaimed louder, "No! Y-you can't do this Blackpaw! We're brothers!" "I don't care," Blackpaw hissed. "I loved Lightpaw, and you took her heart before I could! I don't care if we're brothers, and even though we are, you're still in my way to power!" "Power?" Whitepaw echoed, confused. Blackpaw unsheathed his claws and lashed out his brother. Lightpaw lurked through the bushes and watched with horror as Whitepaw's eye leaked blood. "Why, Blackpaw?!" Whitepaw wailed. "Why?!" Blackpaw ignored Whitepaw's plea and let Shadepaw slam into Whitepaw. Whitepaw gasped and tripped. Half of his body was splashed into the rushing waters. Lightpaw wanted to move, but she couldn't.
Blackpaw gently set his paws neatly onto his brother's. Slowly, Blackpaw unsheathed his claws and let them slowly sink into his brother's paws, enjoying his brother's pain. Slowly, he lifted Whitepaw's paws off the muddy grass and pulled them back. No, Lightpaw thought. Then Blackpaw jerked his brother's paws, letting them go. Whitepaw fell into the rushing waters and was swept away. No cat noticed a dark shadow stare from the other side of the river and rush off after Whitepaw. "No!" Lightpaw wailed. She ran to the waters, shoving the three aside as she went. She stared into the waters. Lightpaw wailed next to the river where her bestest friend drowned. It's all right, a voice whispered in her mind. Now I won't see him again until I join StarClan, she thought miserably, ignoring that voice. Whitepaw was dead. She couldn't believe it, and it was all Blackpaw's fault.
