Birdie ran outside in a pink unicorn t-shirt, gray shorts, and her favorite iridescent slip-on shoes. I brought out a bubble machine and chalk when I saw a little plastic basket on the front porch. It had a box of funfetti cake mix, brownie mix, cupcake cups, and icing. There was a little card and I picked it up, opening it to read.

Hope you enjoy your goodies. We love and miss you!
Love Grammy and papa

I smiled to myself and closed the card, putting it back in the basket. Grammy and papa are my parents; we haven't seen them in a few months because of everything's that's going on.

"Grammy and papa sent up some treats." I said to Birdie. "Grammy?" She asked and I nodded. "We have to tell them thank you later." I opened the box of chalk for Birdie and she started to play.

I put on some gloves and started to deep clean the house. Everyday, I do small things like wash dishes, vacuum, and clean Birdie's medical things. Once a week, I deep clean the house and wipe down all of the surfaces with medical grade cleaner. Birdie is immunocompromised so cleaning is a very long process so everything's safe for her.

"Dada!" She smiled when Baylor showed up on my phone. "Hi baby." He grinned, he was sitting outside of the hospital for his dinner break. "How's work?" I ate some of my chicken Caesar wrap. "It's going ok." He ran his fingers through his hair. I nodded. We talked for a little while longer until he had to go back to work.

While Birdie was doing her nighttime nebulizer treatment, I FaceTimed my mom. When she popped up on the screen, she smiled widely. "Hey El!" She waved. "Hey mom." I smiled back and moved the phone so Birdie could see. Birdie excitedly waved to the screen.

"Is that my Birdie Layne?" She asked and sat down near my dad. I handed Birdie my phone and she moved it close to her mask like she was giving them a kiss. I felt my heart melt and grabbed my phone back from her.

My mom was tearing up when I looked at her. "I miss you guys. I can't believe this is going on." She sniffed and I nodded.

"Baylor and I are staying as safe as we can. I don't know how long this will be happening." I sighed. She nodded and wiped her eyes.

"Did you get my present?" She asked and I nodded. "I can't wait to do it tomorrow with her. She'll be so excited." I smiled. My mom smiled too and nodded. "Well take pictures for me." She replied and we both said goodbye before hanging up.
