CHAPTER 65
"You've arrived! Mr. Charles, welcome to our home!" Cerca's father stood up para salubungin ang kararating lang na bisita.
I've seen him before. Where was it again? Ang alam ko lang ay mataas din ang posisyong mayroon siya.
"Senator Durbrow, good evening!" He returned the greeting at naglakad papalapit sa table. "I wish everyone a pleasant evening as well."
After entering, he became preoccupied with talking to some of the Durbrow's family members, having a good time with them, and discussing work-related issues.
I'm moving from one location to another because I'm also discussing business with some people. A few feet away from Mr. Charles, I came to a halt. I'm guessing he noticed and turned to look at me.
"It's my first time seeing you, Mr. Helffrich!" After stopping in front of me, he moved closer to me and shook my hand.
"Yes, me as well. Would you mind telling me why you've been invited to a family dinner?" I inquired, emphasizing the word "family."
He chuckled and took a glass of wine from the butler's tray. "Senator Durbrow invited me here. We also have some important issues to discuss, which is why I came." He responded.
"I see what you mean. You're a palace official." I said this while staring at him.
"Oh," he chuckled, sipping from his wine glass. "You noticed, huh?" He laughed softly.
"There's a pin on your left collar that stands out." I explained and smiled at him. "As one of the palace's high-ranking officials. I'm surprised you accepted the invite."
"Mr. Helffrich, it's not a big deal. I also took advantage of the opportunity to unwind a little." He chuckled as he set the wine glass down on the table. "So you accepted the palace's proposal?" changing the subject.
"Wasting big opportunities is similar to wasting a valuable diamond for a piece of rock." With a smirk on my face, I replied.
"Impressive. We can relax a little more now that you're in charge of the project." He said this while tapping my shoulders. "I'll see you around."
The night came to an end, and I drove back to my house without Cerca. She told me she was going to sleep in their family house to catch up with her parents, and I let her be because I didn't really care. It's more peaceful now that she's gone. I'm not kidding. Without her, I feel more at ease.
The following days. I became troubled with university matters because the university's founding anniversary is coming up in a few days. There was no time to relax because plates and other subject-related requirements were also piling up.
"What are you doing here?" My brow furrowed as I asked this unexpected person who was moving around like my room was hers.
Nagulat siya at nag-pa-panic na ibinaba ang hawak niyang sandok at plato sa countertop. She sighed in relief. Iniisip niya sigurong baka mabasag niya kaya nakahinga siya ng maluwag.
"I'm sorry!" She repeatedly bowed her head. "I just want to cook some food and remembered this place."
