CHAPTER 77
"Wait!" Someone called as I walked down the stairs outside the gymnasium. Natigilan ako sa paglalakad dahil sa kamay na nakahawak ngayon sa braso ko. "Why do you appear surprised? It's only me," A man said.
When I looked at his face, I knew right away that it was Ryan. "Hey," I said to him. "I'm in a hurry right now... I'll talk to you when I get back," I stated hurriedly before turning my head in the direction I'd be going and leaving him behind. My main focus right now is on that one lady who left on her own.
How could I not be concerned? But I'm not sure why I'm acting this way.
I started running, afraid I'd be too late if something had happened to her, but after spotting her from a distance, I breathed in relief.
Yna... really... When you're heading outside at this hour, how can you not ask for company? I sighed again, collected myself, and walked forward slowly enough to catch up to her and grabbed her hand.
"Don't touch me!" Yna snatched her hand from my grasp, covering it with her palm and closing her eyes tightly. "Are you okay?" I asked, feeling her body tremble. "Yna, calm down. Hey," I uttered quietly, gently shaking her. "Open your eyes and look at me," I whispered, resting my hand on her cheek.
Nagmulat siya ng mata at nagtama agad ang paningin namin. "I apologize if I startled you." Paghingi ko ng paumanhin. She locked her gaze on me for a brief second before realizing we were too close, causing me to be shoved away.. "Oh, I apologize again," Sabi ko sabay taas ng dalawa kong kamay.
"No, it's fine," she said, calming herself down. "Are you okay?" I enquired. "Don't worry, it's just that I'm afraid of the dark," she muttered, shifting her eyes to another direction as she caresses her right arm with her hand.
She sounded uneasy... or am I mistaken?
"Are you sure? You seem pale," I asked, pero itanaas niya ang kamay niya, motioning me to stop. "It's alright. Forget about it." Sabi niya at tumalikod sa akin para magpatuloy sa paglalakad. For a little while, I felt bewildered bago sumunod ng lakad sa tabi niya.
