Slowly letting out a shaky breath as I stood in the elevator with Nathan and I's coffee's in each hand. I was unable to press the tenth-floor button knowing when I did the doors would eventually reveal everyone. Including Nathan. As I mustered up the courage to face him someone walked in and pressed the button. My stomach sank and my muscles tensed as we began to move.

Gluing my eyes onto the doors as we passed every floor with a loud ding. Awkwardly clearing my throat before I heard the doors open internally grateful as I quickly left. Walking quickly to my desk avoiding eye contact with anyone hoping no one else would acknowledge me.

"Hey, I saw your argument with Mr. Vanderbilt yesterday. Is everything okay?" Kim asked with fake sincerity as I placed the coffees on my desk to take off my coat. "Yeah. I shouldn't have said all that." I said making her laugh. "You just said what we were all thinking. I'm just glad it was you and not me. I could never risk my job like that." She smiled making me look at her before she walked away to work.

I frowned to myself realizing Eve said something similar yesterday. People must really not have liked working with him or having him as their boss. I knew most of his rudeness and closed off personality was just mask to keep people away. Which I related with since I have done the same throughout my life. And I assumed everyone else here was just as arrogant as he was since those qualities were drawn out with a job like this.

Walking into his office as he continued to work making me place his coffee on his desk. Standing awkwardly for a moment trying to come up with an apology as he continued to write not acknowledging me. "I'm sorry for saying all those things yesterday. I didn't mean any of it." I began until he cut me off.

"Didn't you though?" He began actually looking up away from his work. "Or else you wouldn't have said them. Most people don't create a scene like that saying things they don't mean." Nathan stated stern and matter-of-factly. "You were right. That's all people see me as because that's all I show them." He said failing to hide the sadness on his face making me frown. "You of all people should know what I mean." Nathan finished looking back down to continue to work.

"What? What's that supposed to mean?" I asked quickly more worried than offended. "You've lied to everyone here for weeks. And you keep your personal life to yourself." He explained making me frown as he continued to look down at his desk. "H-How do you know I've been lying?" I asked making him finally look up at me again.

"Every good lawyer knows how to tell when someone is lying." Nathan answered after a few seconds looking up at me. "Are you really trying to convince me that you're just misunderstood?" I asked scoffing lightly not wanting him to get in my head.

My job would be so much easier if I knew he was just a crooked and morally corrupt lawyer. But so far nothing was showing me that he was. Which only scared me more.

"I'm not trying to convince you of anything." He answered simply. Looking back down at his work.

I thought for a moment as he continued to ignore my existence once again. I knew I hadn't found out anything about him other than that he is extremely dedicated to his job. And the fact he had a family with complications just like any other. Nathan kept to himself and didn't have any sort of social life or any meetings with any sort of sketchy businessmen. He always prosecuted the right people and put the wrong people behind bars. I couldn't understand why I was sent here or what kind of threatening information he had against my boss.

"Can I ask you something?" I asked hesitantly after a few seconds of silently staring at him. Nathan looked up at me curiously realizing I was still here. I was full of seriousness making him frown placing his pen down on his desk showing he was paying attention. Looking up at me obviously confused in my sudden change.
