Nine Months Later
I stood at the tall windows in our bedroom watching the sun come up over the tall city buildings hearing him walk up behind me. Nathan's snaked his hand around, rubbing my growing stomach. "We need to narrow it down and find a place. Our place." He said as I turned to him. Nathan ran his hand lovingly against the side of my face running his fingers through my hair tucking a strand behind my ear.
"I know. We will." I smiled before he leaned down to kiss me softly placing my palm against the side of his face. "I feel like I'm about to pop." I groaned at my ginormous stomach. "Any day now." Nathan kissed my jawline. "Hold that thought." I said pulling away having to use the restroom for the first out of the many times today.
"I was thinking upstate New York." Nathan said as I made oatmeal. I slowly waddling back towards the kitchen counter as he ate his breakfast. "Oh. Really?" I asked holding my lower back with my hand before I felt a small wave of cramping. "Yeah, it's a little bit of a drive from them but it's beautiful there. Lots of small towns." He said looking down at the real estate center of the newspaper.
"Ohh, god." I breathed softly stopping in place. My eyebrows furrowed my face twisted in pain holding the bottom of my stomach feeling a contraction. "What's wrong? Where you thinking somewhere else?" Nathan asked not noticing as I clenched my fists struggling to hold my bowl. Looking up at him my eyes wide in disbelief. My breaths where quick and shallow as I hunched over slightly unable to keep walking.
Moaning in pain reaching out for the counter dropping my oatmeal. The loud sound of the glass breaking finally made him look up. He quickly got up stumbling on his feet seeing me in pain. "Oh, god. Oh, my god. You're in labor." Nathan stuttered inching towards me eyes wide as I stood in pain. "Duh!" I yelled through my teeth before feeling another wave of pain. "Ahh!" I yelled gripping the cold marble with both of hands leaning forward against it.
"Get the car!" I yelled making him snap out of it quickly scrambling looking around. "Keys, keys. Where are my keys?!" Nathan yelled as he ran grabbing his hair roughly. He rushed around the house tossing pillows from the couch and mail on the counter. Nathan continued frantically running around making me look at him with a slight gaping mouth.
"Where are they?!" Nathan continued in desperation as I filled with dread and impatience. "Men were so not made for this."
"God, I'm so embarrassed. Did you see how they were looking at me at the hospital?" I asked as we sat in his car. "They we're looking at me. I was crazy." Nathan emphasized making me smile. "Yeah, you did flip out a little." I laughed making him turn to me amused.
"I'm telling you that's why nature invented false labor. Parents need a dry run." He replied making me scoff amused. "So, next time you're not going to tell the nurse to boil water?" I asked full of amusement. "I can't believe I said that." Nathan smiled running is palm over his face. "I've clearly watched too many westerns. No, next time- next time, I will be fine. I'll be your rock." He said through a smirk making me sigh.
"I brought this on myself. I just can't wait." I smiled brightly. "Neither can I." Nathan smiled through a breathless grin before placing his palm over my enlarged stomach.
"Come on, let's get something to eat. Nick still has Rose for the day." He said getting out of the car to walk around and help me out. Nathan opened the car door as I struggled to get out by myself. Grunting unable to move my torso making me give up with a huff of breath feeling flushed. "Babe, I'm so big I could apply for statehood. I don't think I can get out of here." I joked exhausted making him laugh.
"Come on. I'll help you." He said stepping closer to the car. "Maybe I'll just stay in here until I actually do go into labor." I continued leaning my head back as he continued to smile down at me as if I was still the most beautiful woman to him.
