Instead of leading me back to the bedroom corridor, Dimitri led me to the stairway that led to the dungeons. I froze, refusing to take one more step. Why had he brought me here?

"It's all right, you've done nothing wrong. I just want to show you something." Dimitri soothed me.

I nodded and slowly followed him down the many flights of stairs until we reached the cold, dark and dank bottom. I shivered, still suspicious of Dimitri.

He led me down the hallways lined with cells, which when I looked, thankfully, had no people in them. Dead or alive, I added in my mind.

When we reached the end of the impossibly long hallway of cells, we walked through another set of thick double doors that were already opened. I curiously peered in, and what I saw shocked me.

In the large room there was a long, flat table, and the young man who had stabbed me was tied to it. He was glaring murderously at Drea, who was standing next to the table. She glared back.

When he heard us come in, he turned to glare at Dimitri, and then he spotted me, and his glare turned to a look of disbelief.

"But...you should be dead!" he said, shocked.

"Well, she's not." Dimitri spat at him.

"What the hell did you stab my bride with?" he demanded.

The young man didn't answer. Dimitri snarled and Drea hissed.

I had stayed in the doorway when the conversation started, but unknowingly I had drifted forward until I was a little behind Dimitri.

"Look what you have done!" Drea accused, and quickly came to my side to pull my shirt up again.

"Oh my God, Drea, cut that out!"

He looked at my chest in shock, confusion, and something else that I couldn't place.

"Well?" Dimitri pushed him.

"I don't know." the young man said defiantly, and it was obvious that he was telling the truth.

Dimitri sighed, resigned. "You can have him, Drea."

He left Drea and me with the young man strapped to the table.

"You can have him, Alivia." Drea offered. "You must still be thirsty." and she left, too, so I was left alone with him.

I was still aware of my thirst, but I had all but forgotten it until I was alone. Now, it burned my throat, begging me to drink the blood only a few feet away from me.

But when I turned around, about to take a bite of him, he was staring at me.

"What are you looking at?" I asked him.

"You." he replied. "You seem more human than those two."

"Well, I was once human." I told him.

"You say it like you don't like being a vampire." he observed.

"I don't."

"Strange." he murmured.

I changed the subject, glad to be having a normal conversation with someone other than Vera or Drea.

"What's your name ?" I asked him.

"Darius." he smiled, which surprised me, due to the fact that he was strapped down to a table in a vampire's castle dungeons. "What's yours?"

"Alivia." I smiled back at him. "So, why did Dimitri bring you here?"

"To find out what I stabbed you with." his expression turned from friendly to hateful.
