"THAT BASTARD!" Drea screamed, slamming her fist on the car again.
Romano came back from the woods, where he had buried Vera's body. We had had a little privacy, and as soon as he had disappeared into the trees, Drea had started freaking out.
"I'M GONNA KILL HIM!" she hollered, then hit the car yet again. It literally had the tiniest dent, she was hitting it so hard.
I had just been sitting on the ground, staring at the bloodstain on the road, numb. I had just been as still as a statue in a cemetery, tears sliding down my face. Vera was dead. She had been murdered. And I knew exactly who had killed her.
"He's gonna pay." Drea growled, climbing in the driver's seat and starting the engine.
Romano quickly darted over and pulled the keys out of the ignition before she could peel away.
"Drea, calm down. We need to think about this."
"NO!" she yelled." I won't calm down, Romano! Dimitri murdered Vera! I bet she never did anything to him, and he killed her in cold blood!"
"If he killed her, what'll stop him from killing you, too?" he asked her quietly. Drea was silent, staring at the windshield.
"We can't rush into this. We have to plan."
"We did have a plan! Go to town, find out what he wants, then leave." Drea huffed. "And hopefully not die." she added.
"Can we go?" I asked, my voice raspy.
They looked over and saw what a wreck I was.
"Yeah. Sorry." Drea got back out of the car and helped me up.
Once we were all in the car, Romano started driving. Drea sat in the backseat with me, hugging me while I cried some more. Soon, I fell asleep, but it wasn't peaceful. In the darkness, I was haunted my the images of Vera's death and Dimitri's cold, grey eyes.

I was laying on a cold, moist ground. Damp grass soaked my shirt, and I sat up, disliking the chill it brought.
Then I saw what I was surrounded by.
Bodies. Bodies everywhere, pale, bloodless, with their eyes blank and staring. They all seemed to be staring at me, pleading for my help, asking why I had left. They were all people I loved and cared about. Mom, Dad, Destiny, Vera, Drea, Darius. Everyone.
I cried out, covering my mouth to hold back puke and standing up to try and scramble away, but I bumped into something . . . no, someone, behind me.
I whirled around and screamed a bloodcurdling shriek that even scared me. Dimitri stood there, his arms crossed over his chest, eyeing me up and down curiously. I was utterly terrified. It had been two years since he had invaded my dreams, and this had only reminded me how vulnerable I was.
I turned back around and saw that the bodies were gone, but now there was a cliff, one that dropped into darkness so deep it looked like it descended down to hell. I had nowhere to run.
I felt Dimitri run a hand through my hair, and I shuddered. I hated him touching me.
"What the hell did you do to your hair?" he muttered.
I jerked away, almost falling over the edge of the cliff. Two years of my fear and his anger, and all he cared about was that I had dyed my hair? Wow.
"Oh, God." I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut. "Wake up, Alivia. Wake up. Get out of here-"
"You're not gonna wake up until I'm okay with it, love." Dimitri said, making me shiver with fear once again. If I were still a vampire, I would have fought against him. I would have had more confidence. But no. I was human. Plus he wanted something from me, and he could easily snap my neck like a brittle toothpick. I was powerless.
"Leave me alone." I tried to sound brave, but I only let him know how scared I was.
"I will, but I have to tell you and Drea where to meet me when you get to the town."
"You're in her dream, too?" He could do that?
"Yes. But let's get to the point. At the edge of the city, there's an abandoned cottage. No one has lived there for decades. It'll be a good place to...talk."
I didn't answer. I only stared into the dark abyss below me, trying to wake up. I wasn't having any success.
"Alivia." Dimitri spoke softly, seductively. "Look at me."
I ignored him, digging my nails into the inside of my fists.
"Alivia." he turned me around and took one of my hands, easily prying it out of the fist. I had indented small cuts into my palm, and he brushed the specks of blood away with his fingers. "Don't try to fight me. You just can't do it anymore."
"What do you mean?" I growled, glaring at him straight on for the first time. My old snarkiness was returning, which also meant a lot more comebacks on my part. "I can and will still fight you, as long as I live or until you're dead."
Dimitri sighed. "I forgot how annoying you are sometimes."
I ripped my hand out of his and bitch-slapped him.
He didn't even flinch. "I sort of expected that." he muttered, then grabbed my upper arm and pulled me closer. I winced at his tight grip, and also became fearful. I had already inflicted a physical wound to myself in my sleep. What could he do to me in my sleep?
"You and Drea will show up to that cottage at sunset, alone. Understand?" he snarled in my face. I could only avert my eyes.
He shook me roughly, and I was forced to look him in the eye again.
"We'll show up, alone." I said through gritted teeth.
Dimitri smirked, and I felt Drea shaking me, her frantic voice releasing me from the horrible dream.

"Alivia! Wake up!" She slapped me.
"Hey!" I put a hand to my stinging cheek.
She grimaced. "Sorry. You were talking in your sleep about an abandoned cottage or something."
I groaned and put my head in my hands. "It was Dimitri." I said. I had a headache, and it pounded every corner of my head.
"I suspected as much." Her frown deepened. "He came into my dream, too."
"Did he say the same thing?"
"Yep."
I sighed and leaned back in the seat, rubbing my temples. "Do we have any headache medicine?"
"Yeah. I have some Excedrin in the front seat." She leaned forward as Romano handed it to her. She gave me it and I took a couple little gel pills, then looked out the window. We were about to arrive at the town.
It was a dark and desloate town. Not many people were out on the streets but those who were looked like poor goth kids, with no eyeliner necessary due to the shadows around their eyes. Everything had a gaunt, depressing look.
"Typical that Dimitri would choose a place like this." Drea muttered, but I could tell she was scared. We both were.
We came to a small place called the Inn at Romany, which didn't really make sense since we were nowhere near that area of Italy. Oh well.
We wandered inside, and Romano went to order a room for us to stay in for the day while Drea looked around with me.
It was hard to describe. The whole place was decorated like a fortune teller's shop. Mysterious lighting, dark purple drapes by the windows, red carpets, tables with candles, and shelves of mystical artifacts. It was beautiful but a little creepy.
I wandered through some silver beaded curtains and was greeted with a room decorated similarly, but was met with a single table with a crystal ball on it.
I walked over and peered at it curiously. After a few seconds, I saw a faint shadow move inside. I looked closer, but the only things I continued to see were flitting shapes that seemed to be teasing me.
Sighing, I turned around and saw a wrinkly face terrifyingly close to mine.
