I slipped in and out of consciousness. I was only vaguely aware of Drea and Vera. I heard screams of pain, and I wondered if they were mine, or the young man's as Drea and Vera killed him in revenge.
I felt a sharp, piercing pain in my chest, and it it felt warm and wet. I guessed that that was my blood.
The screaming didn't stop as I was lifted off of the hard wooden floor, and then I was traveling so fast that it felt like I was flying. I heard voices keep telling me that I was going to be fine and that we were going home.
I forgot my name, I forgot who I was with. I forgot what I was, where I was going, and who I was being taken to. All that I felt, all that mattered was the warm, wet pain in my chest.
After what seemed like no time at all, I heard a new voice demanding what was wrong with me and what the hell had happened. I became angry as I recognized it as Dimitri's, and the pain in my chest faded enough to open my eyes.
"Alivia." he sighed in relief. I hadn't realized that we were inside the palace and that he was cradling me to his chest. I mustered enough strength to lift my hand weakly and shove as hard as I could, though I had to admit the attempt was pitiful.
"How the hell can you still be yourself with that thing stabbed through your chest?" Dimitri mumbled.
I moaned as the pain overshadowed everything else. I faintly heard Dimitri and Drea and Vera panicking, shouting my name, screaming to hurry and asking desperately if was going to be all right.
After what seemed like hours of enduring the throbbing, the agonizing pain had extended to the rest of my torso.
By the time Dimitri had carried me wherever he was going, I was thrashing and screaming in agony. I shrieked over and over again for them to kill me, not hearing their responses.
Dimitri put me down on a hard surface, and something restricted my arms and legs to keep me from thrashing. The next thing I knew, I screamed a bloodcurdling shriek of agony as whatever was in my chest was ripped out.
I stopped thrashing, though, and the pain ebbed until exhaustion took over.
There were still brief flashes of pain in my chest, and I whimpered occasionally. When I did, someone smoothed my forehead, trying to soothe me.
When the pain finally ended, I was on the brink of sleep, but I heard Dimitri tell me one last thing before I went under.
"Alivia, can you hear me? You're going to be fine."
