I woke up in complete darkness but because of my intensified sight, I saw quite clearly in the dark. At first I thought that I was actually in my room at home, and that I was still human. At first I thought that all that had happened was just a horrible, yet very realistic nightmare. I sat up and stretched, climbing out of bed and going over to my closet.

I opened the door, and saw that my clothes were all neatly hung up and my shoes were lined up on the floor instead of clumped up on the ground or scattered around my room. Mom must have cleaned up a little bit.

I swapped my pjs for a pair of white skinny jeans and a black tank top, adding a see-through, long sleeved top made of a veil-like material on top. I put on my favorite lavender tennis shoes that had my friends' signatures written all over them.

After applying black eyeliner and my favorite extreme-length mascara that I always ordered from Avon, I heard a sudden knock at the door.

"Ugh." I groaned. "I'll be down in a minute, mom!" I yelled, turning to my window to open it, but it seemed to have disappeared.

That's when I remembered.

I was now a vampire. My mom wasn't knocking at the door, and she hadn't cleaned up my room.

The door was opened, the chair not an obstacle for Vera in the slightest.

"Hey, Alivia." She smiled. "Breakfast time."

"What are the choices? O Negative or A Positive?" I asked sarcastically. Bad joke, I know, but I was in a bitter mood.

"No." Her face fell a little, and she gained an expression that told me she was trying to figure out how she should phrase something.

"Alivia, we hunt for our food." She said carefully, assessing my face as she spoke. "Drea would like it if you came."

"Well, you can tell her that I'd rather not." I said tightly.

"Dimitri won't be coming." She informed me. "We asked him not to."

"He didn't object?"

"Nope."

"He won't be following us on the sly?"

"Trust me, we would know if he were." She insisted.

I sighed. "Fine. I'll come."

"Great! This will be so much fun!"

"If you can call killing people fun." I grumbled.

Vera ignored that last comment.

She led me though the maze of hallways until we reached a set of huge double doors that were already opened. We slipped through the just big enough crack and stepped out into the cool, crisp night air.
