First Day of Training

The next morning, I was very groggy and confused by the unfamiliar room I woke up in.

I was jerked out of my groggy state by a shrill scream emanating from Drea's mouth like an alarm clock from a horror movie.

"You son of a-" she threw the stake that had been clutched in her fist all night at the wall on the opposite side of the room.

At that moment, Darius walked in, the stake narrowly missing his face and sticking itself deep in the wall.

Drea covered her mouth with her hand, looking shocked. "I...I'm sorry. I just...I had this dream that-"

"It's alright." Darius pulled the stake out of the wall. "At least now I know what you'll ace at in training." She blushed.

"Let's see what you guys can wear." He walked over to the closet, pawing through the clothes I saw inside.

"Wait, isn't training after lunch?" Drea crawled out of the bed.

"It is after lunch. You guys slept pretty late. And I don't blame you."

"Ugh!" I put my head in my hands. I had missed our meeting in the library. "Sorry, Darius."

"That's fine. You were tired." He said, tossing a bundle of clothes at me and Drea.

"What in the hell?" She held up the shirt. It was a plain black T-shirt, but apparently she thought it was bad.

She made a face. "Dude, I am not wearing this." She tossed it to the side and breezed past Darius who looked confused.

I shrugged. "We're girls. We're picky about what we wear." I said, smiling.

"Yeah!" Drea cheered.

She waltzed out of the closet in a gray tank top and dark jean shorts.

I rolled my eyes. "Really, girl?"

"Oh, come on! I found something for you, too." She tossed me a black tank top and yoga pants.

"Thanks." I said, then turned to Darius.

"You." I turned to him. "Out." I pointed to the door.

"Ok, ok, ok." He said as I practically pushed him out the door.

After I changed into the clothes and threw mine and Drea's old stuff in the trash (they were pretty damn dirty), we left the room to head over to the training room with Darius.

The training room was pretty modern compared to the rest of the city's design. The whole floor was one huge blue mat. To one side of the room was an obstacle course, designed to challenge agility and speed. To the other side was a pretty damn high climbing wall, with climbing ropes dangling off to the side of it. In the center was a wrestling ring, and surrounding it were weight lifting stations, pull up stations, the like.

I kicked off my shoes, taking a deep breath and pulling my hair into a ponytail.

"Where are we starting?" Drea asked.

"You're starting with the stake-throwing." Darius told her, pointing to the station, then he turned to me.

"Climbing." He said, leading me over.

I became excited. I loved climbing. It had been my obsession when I was younger.

"Ok, so, first-"

"I got this." I said, and started climbing.
