~*Tracker's POV*~

I’ve been tracking my ex-Alpha for 2 years. The bastard had to leave his pack for some human. He believes her to be his mate but that is impossible for a werewolf. There’s never been a human-werewolf mate but he claims her.

I’ve watched them get married and now that human is pregnant with his child. For the sake of the werewolf community it better be a human and not a shifter. The mother would have to be eliminated the moment she learned for our world. The vampires won’t allow humans into our secrets. They are the reason why I have to watch my old friend and Alpha.

And I know for a fact that Wane would never tolerate his wife to become a blood sucker. Wane and his wife are at peace as always. They never fight or bicker, she stays home now while he works in a big office building downtown. Sad to see the once great Alpha reduce himself to a bus boy in a company he used to own.

But he chose it for himself the day he disappeared leaving only a note. I remember saying the words to the pack, ‘I, Alpha Wane, resign from my Alpha position and wish to be left alone to my choices in my life.’ The pack was heartbroken and we were forced to have another pack’s Alpha command us.

I’ve been reduced to a watcher. Going from a Beta possession to this lowly watch guard is a shameful thing. My own wife had died a week after the demotion from cancer. So this job has become my life. Every day I watch from the hotel across the street to make sure they are safe and that the wife is oblivious to the Dark world around her.

Hell she’s carrying an 8 month old werewolf now and won’t ever know for her own good. The poor child will suffer. Most likely will be an Omega from the tainted human genes. Sad to see Wane work so hard for what? An Omega child and a human wife. It brings shame to my mind to think that I used to be friends and a co-worker with the guy.

Pisses me off that he hurt the pack so badly and he never shed a tear or even looked back to see the way we shattered. He left us and members started dying left and right. We went from a population of 2,000 to a few hundred in a little over 6 months. Some were suicides and other depression and illness.

And to make it worst vampires have gotten a little too common in the area. We used to cover a great amount of land but now vampires are everywhere. I look at the street and can sniff out at least 10 within the hundreds of humans that just mill around all day. Pitiful.

Well its 8, Wane should be getting home from work, the wife finishing up dinner. Same schedule every workday. And there’s Wane, he enters, sets his work down and gets ready to eat.

I hear a doorbell. They don’t have any friends… Wife answers the door and a large man in a black suit stands there. Dam he looks like a vampire. I better not run over there just yet.

The vamp speaks to the wife and sits on the sofa. Wane enters the room and sees the vamp. Looks like Wane is growling, which he has never done since leaving the pack. I start the gather my bag with extra clothes. My wolf shift therefore it’s a good idea before going there.

I look back at the house. Damn Wane is lying in the floor and the wife is screaming. I run out the hotel over to the house. I find the door is already busted down. I enter and look around.

Wane is in a small pool of blood. I check his pulse. The vampire killed him. I look around the kitchen and find a knife on the floor covered in blood. The air smells awful so the blood must be the vampire’s.  “Mrs. Woods? Are you here? I’m an old friend of Wane’s.”

There’s a shuffle in the back room. I walk down the hall cautiously. The door opens and the wife steps out with a silver frying pan. “Get out! I don’t want your help. You could be just like the other one.”

She swung the pan at me. I dodged fearing the silver. She screamed at me so I ran. I didn’t need to cause more of a scene. A few weeks later she gave birth to a girl. I got records and learned that the child’s name is Whisper Woods.

I didn’t meet the child but I watched over her till she was two. After doing some spy work I was able to test her blood for werewolf genes. She was human.  Once confirmed I was taken off the case. No Dark world members were to watch over the family any longer. But I kept my tabs.

I heard that the mother died of brain cancer and a blood disorder when Whisper was 8. Till age 15 Whisper moved from foster home to foster home. For some strange reason no families would adopt her. Not being permitted to have any contact made it impossible to find out why.

At Whisper’s 15th birthday she had found a way to get out of the Foster system to live on her own.

Somehow the Alpha found out about my information line and moved me to where I could be watched closer. I was never able to contact her again.
