I was surprised that James had asked me out. I was still mad at him but I couldn’t let that ruin our relationship. Especially after he declared his love to me.
The first thing I did to prepare was go under my sink where all the hair dye was. I found the exact color that matched my natural shade. I had to bleach the black and blue out first though. It an hour to get my hair back to its normal color. The brand was water proof so I was able to shower right after.
As I stepped out of my shower, I wrap a large blue towel around me and walk to my closet. With the towel tightly wrapped, I dug through the dresses I had. I finally chose a dark blue dress. I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror.
It covered my legs till right below my knees. The bottom half of the dress had a spider wed look to it while the top had a more elegant cocktail look. It didn’t have sleeves but I found a light crop top, button up black sweater. All my scars were covered now.
I then went to my bathroom again and put my hair up in a simple half pony tail. The upper half of my hair was tied in a black bow and the lower half hug free to cover the back of my neck.
I picked out a pair of flats and noticed the time.
I have a few minutes left to slip the flats on and meet James down stairs. I did exactly that and as I walked down the stairs, I felt eyes on me.
Shay watched me from his corner. James appeared in the living room just then too.
I smiled at James as I saw the black dress shirt and tux pants.
He smiled back and hugged me. “You ready to go?”
I nodded and held out my hand for him to lead me. James took my hand and we took a mustang out of the pack area. Once we were in town, he found an Italian restaurant. Surprisingly he had reservations.
WE were seated and after ordering our drinks, James began the conversation. “Is that your natural color? It’s beautiful.”
I smiled and touch my hair. “Yes, I did it for you. And the black and blue was unneeded.”
James smiled. “The dark colors worked for you but natural has its name for a reason. It looks best.”
I felt my cheeks heat up. It was a strange feeling so I touched my cheek.
James chuckled. “You’re blushing.”
“Oh…” I slowly moved my hand away from my face and my cheeks went even hotter.
James raised an eye brow. “Have you never blushed before?”
I shook my head no. “I’ve never talked to really anyone before Alex meet me the day I shifted.”
James nodded and stared at the table solemnly. “Well I want to change that.” He looked up at me. “I want you to be happy and to never have to think about your past unless it’s to remember the good things.”
I smile. “You haven’t even heard much about my past.”
James sighs. “I can tell it pains you and that it has been bad from the look on your face when your deep in thought.”
I look down at the table and was fixing to speak when someone cleared their throat. I looked up and it was the waitress. “Are you ready to order the food?”
James nodded and we both ordered. As soon as the waitress left, I spoke. “James, it’s hard to believe that you want to do all this for me. I don’t like talking about my past but I will tell you that it will always haunt me even if I lost all my memory. I also wouldn’t have agreed to this date if you were anyone besides my Mate. Our bond is the biggest reason why I am giving you a second chance.”
James sighs and frowns but stays silent. A word isn’t spoken until the food arrived.
We didn’t converse much till we left the restaurant. James led me to a park where we took a walk.
“Whisper, I been thinking. You can do want ever you want. I love you and if you feel that our bond is the only thing connecting us then fine.”
I sighed. “James, I’ve had a rough past. No one has ever loved me other then my mother. I never even talked to anyone outside of work or…” I pause before I could finish my sentence.
James noticed and looked at me. “Or what? What has happened to you to make you think that you can’t be loved? Who has hurt you enough to make you think that?”
I sighed and looked at my hands as we walked the trail. “Remember how I was in foster care for a while? Well I got out of it for a reason. But the reason followed me. Ryan understands it because he was the first…”
~*James POV*~
Whisper stopped talking. I thought for a second but still didn’t understand. “What do you mean Whisper?”
She sighed but wouldn’t respond. I remembered the scars then. “Does it have to deal with that scar on your neck?”
Whisper’s head snapped up and she quickly moved her hair to cover her neck. “Possibly. Can we talk about this some other time? I want to go home.”
She turned to start the walk back. I grabbed her arm and pulled her to my chest. I leaned my head down and whispered. “I will find out what happened but first.”
I was fixing to kiss her but she met me half way. We stood under a lamp post kissing for a few minutes. I ended up breaking the kiss to breathe. She was breathing hard.
I hugged her to my chest more but she pushed on me. “I still want to go home.”
I sigh and nodd. Thorn screamed at me to disobey Whisper, but I knew better.
We walked back to the car in silence. The drive was quiet as well.
But I broke the air of nervousness. “Whisper, I do love you. When we get home, I hope that you will understand this and get used to it soon.”
She only nodded. When we got home, she went to her room. I went up to mine and laid on my bed.
Thorn spoke to me. ‘Why didn’t you listen to me?’
I sighed. ‘Cause you were listening to your wants and not what’s best.’
Thorn growled but grew quiet. I rolled over to my side. ‘Thorn, do you think that I handled everything ok?’
‘Yes, I think that Blood-Fang needs to talk to Whisper though.’
I agree with him and, feeling tired, I slip into a deep sleep.
