LINDSAY
Waiting at the bottom of the stairs alongside Mattew as we wait for Ellie to come down. It's been a long time since I've had to wear a suit, a good thing Ellie forced me to bring it.
It's been thirteen years since I last saw him, not that I really remember him anyway. He's more like a dream now. Someone I've dreamed of meeting.
Now that I've been given the choice of meeting him, I'm freaked out. "Lindsay, you'll be fine," Mattew says after we've stood here in silence for ten minutes.
"It's been thirteen years, I don't even know him anymore," I say, Mattew seems like someone who wants to help. Not like Alexander who just dismisses problems.
I've never liked that prick.
Mattew turns to me but I don't turn to him. "I was twenty-one, my company had just taken off, Ellie was four years old and this guy walked in, he was like forty and he asked to see me, didn't have an appointment but I still saw him." Mattew starts.
I didn't know Mattew and Estelle had Ellie when they were teens. "This man walked into my office, he told me he was my father, I didn't believe him, my father took off when I was three with my sister."
Ellie had mentioned when we were like sixteen he had a sister, she's a druggie though. "I deck him, hard, twice actually, the first time for leaving the second was for safe measure, That wanted my gut told me to do."
Is he telling me to follow my gut in a very long way? "Just try not to fight anyone tonight," He says and I turn to him and he smiles at him, it's a warming smile.
The clicking of heels comes down the stairs and I turn to see Ellie coming down the stairs.
My jaw drops once I see her in a form-fitting black dress, off the shoulders and it has a deep v showing off her boobs.
Ellie comes over to me and smiles. She instantly begins to fix my tie before kissing my cheek. "Let's get this show on the road," Ellie says taking my hand. We follow Mattew out to the limo. I guess it is a formal event.
I've never been in a limo but Ellie has. She road in them all the time. The driver holds the door open.
Ellie gets in before me. Sitting beside her putting my hand on her knee. "So what is this girl like?" Ellie asks wanting to know more about her dad's girlfriend.
"Well her name is Rosemary, she's younger than me, she's thirty," Mattew says, I forget how young her parents really are. Mattew is thirty-five and Estelle is Thirty-four.
Ellie nods wanting him to continue, "I think you and Rosemary will get along really well, She's an artist, I met her when she came over to do the paintings of your cousins," Mattew says trying to make her seem more presentable to Ellie.
She nods not saying anything. "She does have a daughter whos four, who if you like Rosemary you can meet on a different day," Mattew says.
Mattew seems to really like this woman, She has a kid, she's an artist and his face is just glowing talking about her. He was never that way when talking about Estelle. They were never happy together.
"Okay," Ellie says smiling and Mattew nods.
He turns to look at me. "Your father won't be there for a while so you'll have time to adjust to the scene before meeting him. I promise he's not a bad guy like your mom has made him seem like and I think you should know the true reason he left."
Mom always told us that he just walked out when things got hard. Was that no true? did something actually happen? I never blamed him for leaving, everyone can only handle so much and he never wanted kids.
