"You've got to be shitting me." Reece said the moment I walked into the living room.
"Language Reece." My mother exclaimed.
I said nothing to him or my mother. I stood there holding my bag which I had packed with everything I needed for the few days trip the day before.
"She just-" Reece began to speak but my mother cut him off before he could go and degrade me.
"Reece you need to cut it out. If you're going to act like this you can stay home with your father." She raised her eyebrow at him in a challenging way while crossing her arms across her chest.
"That's not fair!" He raised his voice at his mother which was something he knew to never do.
"Alright than you can go up to your room and stay if that's how you're going to talk to me."
"She's allowed to show up late after fucking Pierce probably all morning and she doesn't get in trouble. This is bullshit." He stood up off the couch. "She gets to make you a nervous wreck and gets no consequences. I swear you go so easy on her just because she's adopted."
"Reece." I said softly, trying to avoid eye contact with the boy on an angry mission. "I know you're upset but I want you to come so please just stop." I finally looked at the boy who I had never seen this angry.
"Apologize to your sister." My mother said pacing in front of the coffee table.
"I'm sorry." He said so emotionless. I knew he wasn't sorry. He was upset and I understood. His anger was more towards the fact that I made our mom worry. I could tell it was something that he hated to see his mother doing. He had probably seen it way too much with Emery.
After the argument in the living room, we all piled into the car and took the two-hour drive to some place I'd never been before. Everything was uncharted and new. But I was truly excited to get to spoil my siblings more than I ever could before.
"Charlee and Reece, you two will be paired today. You guys need to work through your issues. I'll take the twins." Our mom said as she handed us a key to our hotel room for the few days we were here.
Reece groaned but we took off for our room together. We were only there long enough to put our bags down before we headed out shopping for the day. The first stop was lunch then it was off to spending our parent's money for presents for close friends and family.
"Why didn't dad come?" I said before placing a French fry covered in ketchup in my mouth.
"He never does." Reece said as he finished off his plate of food. "'Shopping's for the women. I just provide the money' is what he always says."
"Do you wish you could do the same?" Reece rolled his eyes at my attempt at small talk because he was still pissed at me.
"No. I like spending his money. But back to the real issue here. Why the hell did you sleep with Pierce?"
"Just because I'm wearing his clothes doesn't mean we slept together." I narrowed my eyes at him. My response only received a laugh from him. "Even if we did what's it to you? It's none of your business what I do and who I do it with."
"You literally ripped my entire friend group apart."
"No. He did. Pierce and I were doing just fine behind closed doors. What's done is done and I can't change it so give it a rest. I'm sorry that your friends all hate each other now. But you need to stop blaming me for every little thing that goes wrong. I've had that shit enough growing up and I don't need this from my new family Reece. I really, really don't."
"You could be less braggy about sleeping with him." He leaned back in his chair eyeing me.
"He picked out what I was going to wear today. I wasn't going to fight him on it. There's no point. It's just clothing. I fucked Pierce, big whoop. We've fucked many times now, it's nothing new. I just think you're jealous because you still haven't slept with Harlow." I smirked knowing I was pushing his buttons.
"Fuck you." He stood up grabbing his empty tray where his food previously was.
I picked the few remaining fries off my tray and shoved them in my mouth following his actions. "It'll happen eventually Reece." I winked, returning the tray to where it was supposed to be. Reece followed behind me.
We spent the next few hours shopping around avoiding all thoughts of holding a conversation. There was no point in trying when I knew I'd get nothing but an attitude. It was typical though. Siblings around the same ages always acted like this. At least from what I had witnessed in life.
We walked past a jewelry store and I stopped myself, looking in the window at all the sparkling objects behind the glass. "Can we go in here?" I looked at Reece who was ten steps away at this point.
"Trying to break dad's bank account?" He raised his eyebrows at me. "I like that idea." He joined me in front of the store before we walked inside.
I trailed my fingers down the glass admiring the diamonds and stones in all the jewelry. I stopped at the bracelets hoping I'd find something for my sisters. I wanted to give them something they could cherish forever. Something that wasn't just a hand-me-down from someone else.
My eyes locked onto a charm bracelet that just called to everything that I was looking for. "Can I see this one?" I pointed to one behind the glass and the nice woman behind the counter pulled it out. I took it in my hands and ran my fingers across the metal.
"How much is this?" Reece asked, pointing to the bracelet in my hand.
"The bracelet alone is about $350 and the charms, if you want to add some, can range from $100 on up." I sighed and handed the woman the bracelet back.
"We'd like two." Reece looked at me. "Can we see the charms?" He smiled before looking back at the lady who led us further down the counter to all the charms we could choose from.
"Reece this is too much." I fidgeted with my fingers standing uncomfortably at the counter.
"No it's not." He laughed like this price was normal for a damn bracelet. "Now pick out some charms to add for Ryatt and Lucy before I do it for you." He smiled at me. This was the first time all day he was being nice and it felt good honestly. Even if I was uncomfortable spending that much money, Reece always understood.
The first charm I picked out was a teddy bear for Ryatt. That girl loved her teddy bear more than anything in the world. When I stayed at Casey's house, I searched for her special little bear but I couldn't find it. I assume somewhere between getting taken away from home and now it was taken from her. I wanted this to be a reminder for her always that I will be her special teddy bear.
The second charm I picked was a gift box with a diamond in the center of it. Lucy was extravagant. She was a gift to the world and I always wanted her to remember that. The world would not be the same without her. I needed to remind her of this because it's what I needed to hear but never got to hear until I met Pierce.
I then got them matching hearts that said love you in them. Lucy's I got in red, I felt like it matched her persona. And Ryatt's I got in pink, simple reason, she liked pink. The final one came with the bracelet and it was a little blue heart. It was perfect.
Over the years I could add more when some life changing event came along for the two of them. But for now, this was enough and I had spent way too much of my parent's money.
