Despite the events that occurred just a few hours ago, Adeline still finds herself in the kitchen earlier than the rest, preparing breakfast for the boys.

Neither Frypan or George are awake yet, but Adeline does not mind. She likes the quiet. Enjoys the peacefulness of her own company.

It gives her time to reflect. To think about the Glade, and what she wants her life to be.

That is why, when she hears the faint sound of footsteps getting louder as someone enters the kitchen, Adeline tries to ignore it. She pretends not to hear the boy, keeping her eyes trained on the pieces of fruit in front of her.

Her ears only perk up when she hears the sound of the bacon sizzling as the rashers are lifted and dropped down again.

"George, don't you remember what happened last time you tried to help me with breakfast?" she asks with a smile.

However, as she spins her body around, the smile drops. "Oh" she says, "sorry, thought you were George."

"It's okay" the boy responds, "I saw you were here and I-"

"And you what? Hmm?" Adeline spits. Reaching behind her, she grabs a cloth from the counter and begins wiping her hands, all while refusing to tear her eyes away from the boy.

"Did you want to come here and find out the juicy goss?" she asks, lifting her shoulders up and pulling her lips into a thin line. "See if I'd tell you all my secrets? All about my nightmares?"

Lowering her shoulders back down, Adeline turns back to face the counter and starts to angrily chop up some fruit. "Well there's no point."

"I just came to see if you were okay..."

Adeline looks up from the bunker, staring at the wall ahead, immediately feeling guilty for snapping at the boy. "Right" she mutters, shaking her head slightly, "sorry."

The girl begins to work in silence, chopping up some strawberries and dropping them into a bowl. She knows that there is no point in asking the boy to leave, for he will refuse, and it will only end up causing an argument.

An argument which Adeline is far too exhausted to have.

Lifting her watch up to her eyeline, Adeline quickly checks at the time. Noticing that she could, in fact, still go into the maze today. It is meant to be her day off, but if she left as soon as the doors opened, with the other runners, she could avoid Nick and Alby.

Of course, she would still have to get past this boy who has decided that this morning he would help with cooking.

"So are you?" the boy asks, yanking Adeline back into reality.

"Am I what?" she questions, lowering her wrist back down and continuing on with her task.

"Are you okay?"

The girls shoulders rise and fall as she inhales a deep breath. "I'm fine."

"I just thought that, since last night-"

"I'm fine, Gally" Adeline says once more, although this time her voice is slightly louder, her tone more firm.

"Do you want to-"

"Didn't we decide there was no point in you asking that?" she asks, turning her body around to face him. Leaning the bottom of her back against the counter and curving her palms around the edges on each side of her, she pushes her head forward slightly and raises her eyebrows at the boy, silently daring him to say something else.

Gally, who until this point, has had his head down as he laid out plates of bread, finally glances her way. Dropping the knife he was holding onto one of the empty dishes, he twists his body to the side, his right hand resting on the bunker while tucking his left hand into the waistband of the apron he is wearing. "You need to talk about it."
