Adeline all but threw herself from the bed as soon as Nick mentioned the surprise.
No, scratch that, she did throw herself from the bed. In the most ungracious of fashions, actually. Foolishly thumping her right foot down on the floorboards, her leg instantly buckled and caved in on itself as she flew forward, with her body twisting and her hands shooting out, scrambling to grab on to the edge of the bed.
Nick, of course, had tried to save her. But his attempts proved to be futile when the discarded blanket on the floor twirled and looped around his ankles, ultimately resulting in his downfall.
Luckily for Adeline, she had a cushioned fall.
Not so lucky for Nick, who just so happened to be the cushion.
Both of them soon became tangled in the sheets, crumpled together in a heap on the floor, with Nick trying to wriggle his way out from under Adeline, and her too busy cackling and snorting to find the strength to move.
The affair truly was a disaster from start to finish.
After a few choice words from the boy, and a whole lot of wheezing apologises from the girl, the two of them had succeeded in unravelling themselves from the mass of cotton, but not before Nick had somehow managed to brush his palm past Adeline's breast, causing her to roar with laughter as his face turned a bright shade of candy apple red.
Nick says it was an accident, nothing more than him poorly misjudging how close she was to him.
Adeline is not so sure of his "mistake."
Soon enough, though, the pair had made their way to breakfast, where the smell of freshly cooked bacon dances in the air under their noses.
Nick inhales the sweet scent, whereas Adeline bokes at the foul odour.
"It does not smell that bad" the leader scoffs, his expression laced with amusement as he watches the girl across the table scrunching her face up.
"It does" she counters, leaning forward with her elbows on the table while she discreetly attempts to cover her nose with her hands.
"Don't do that" Nick whisper-shouts at her, pushing himself forward on his chair until the edge of it digs into his chest. "What if Fry sees you?"
"It's nothing to do with Fry's cooking, it's just... the smell of bacon makes me sick, ya know?" Adeline responds, pushing her nose further into her palm.
"Still?" the boy questions, throwing himself away from the table until the top of his spine collides with the back of the chair. "After two years?"
"Twenty-three months" the girl corrects, the sound of her voice muffled slightly as the noise slips through the gaps in her fingers.
Nick's expression deadpans for a moment. "Two years" he says, lazily crossing his arms over his chest.
"Twenty-three mo-" Adeline starts, but is cut off when a warm burning sensation fizzles its way up her leg. Dropping her palms down on the table, she pushes her body back and tilts her head to the side. Her brows furrowing as she stares down at her leg, silently questioning where the pain came from.
The leader notices the quizzical expression on her face, and he mimicks her actions by tilting his head down to look under the table. "Are you alright?" he questions, his gaze darting between her legs and her face.
"Yea" she mumbles absentmindedly, her concentration still focused on the painful twitch in her injured leg. "Just felt like something stabbed my leg."
"Your right leg?" Nick asks, his curiosity instantly peaked as he stares at her wide eyed.
Adeline ignores the boy as the same sensation sparks through her nerves, causing her to wince once more. "Fucking hell" she mutters, her face scrunching and her hand flying down and her palm firmly rubbing against her skin.
