Control.

It is something that is craved in all walks of life, over every type of species known. From a pack of wolves, battling to determine a new leader, to business men, clawing and clambering their way to the top of the pyramid.

No matter where you go or what you do, there will always be someone, or something, that is higher in the pecking order than you.

But people often forget that, regardless of where you are in the food chain, you still have the ability to control some things in this plagued world.

Your mind.

Your thoughts, words, movements.

Every time you scrunch up your nose when a smell you do not like wafts up into the air, or twiddle your toes at the beach, allowing the soft sand to lightly scrape against the bottom of your feet.

Every time you jump and cheer, celebrating a great victory, or the way you shake and cry when you lose something close to your heart.

You are in control of you.

But what if you were to attempt to control another?

Well, it could be easy.

For centuries, humans have held complete control over the majority of every other species.

Cats and dogs, once fierce predators. Stalking and hunting their prey, their next meal. No longer seen as a threat, but instead, a house pet.

Pigs, cows, chickens. Sent to slaughter. Butchered in the most horrific of ways, seen as nothing more than a meal ticket for the hungry.

Horses no longer roam over vast meadows and through tall, luscious grass. No, now they are trained. Fitted with saddles and harnesses, reigned in from their freedom and stripped back to just a simple means of transportation for men who are too lazy and weak to lug around their own luggage.

In time, man has learned that it takes no special skill to control those who cannot fight back.

However, to control another being, to command another man to do your bargaining takes a lot more patience and intelligence.

Getting inside someones head. Collecting data, figuring out what makes them tick and how to use it to your advantage is a tricky task.

The brain is the centre of all knowledge, analyst of all senses, and indicator of all movements.

The source of all qualities that define our humanity.

The crown jewel of the human body.

So it should be impossible to infiltrate another mans mind and completely dominate their being... should it not?

As it turns out, no.

As it turns out, there are a group of people who are quite heavily trained on such a chore.

They, who oversee everything that happens within the confides of the Glade.

The unknown leaders of this pack of kids.

The monarchs of this kingdom of concrete walls.

The creators.

With the power they hold, the creators can command these kids to do anything they so choose. From something as simple as making them climb a wall, all the way to forcing them to kill another.

They can do it all.

It just seems a pity that, after nearly two years, none of the Gladers have managed to figure it out.
