The drinks were buzzing through me, making my mind feel at it’s peak, but my body was perfectly fine. I was the perfect amount of drunk. No one knew, except maybe Marianne. And Harry if he was here. He’d definitely know. He always knew. I was very much aware of Adam’s hand resting dangerously close to my butt, but I willed it. He was beautiful, he really was. Bright white teeth, tan skin, brown eyes that were soft and kind…

HM: on a date and he’s fine as faaaack.

I was surprised by how quickly his response came in…literally seconds.

HS: be careful please.

HM: don’t worry pumpkin. he said serial killing is third on his list of hobbies. NOT EVEN NUMERO UNO.

HM: #keeper

HS: i’m serious.

HM: your such an old lady!!

HS: *you’re

I chose to ignore his bitchiness.

HM: nadine good?

HS: wouldn’t know.

HM: woah woah WHAT?!

HS: go enjoy your date. we’ll talk later. x.

HM: come over tonight! i’ll be home round 10 or 11.

HS: what about your date?

HM: i actually like him, bud. no need for sex on the first date!

HS: that’s my girl xo

HS: might just head over to your place now? is that okay?

HM: are you okay?

HM: and yes, absolutely.

HS: have fun on your date, lovely. see you in a bit xo.

“Hello…earth to Hallie…?” I locked my phone and looked up at Adam.

“I’m sorry…friend needed me. Phone’s away though. I’m all yours.” His arm brought me closer, tightening slightly.

“Good. So how do you like the guys?”

“They’re amazing! I love them…”

“This is their first big gig and they’re rocking it…”

“I want their CD!”

“They don’t have one…they’re not that cool yet…” He laughed.

“They really are good though…tell them to get on it.”

“How about…we don’t talk about them right now…” He pulled me onto the dance floor, a sly smile on his face. “Dance with me?” I nodded and moved my butt against his front side. We began swaying back and forth to the bluesy music and I was actually really happy. It was the perfect night. Easy going. Laid back…possibly the best first date I had ever been on.

Cause it takes something more this time, than sweet sweet lies oh now, before I open up my arms and fall, loosing all control, every dream inside my soul, when ya kiss me on that midnight street, sweep me off my feet, singing ain't this life so sweetThis Year's Love by David Gray

The strong scent of butter and melted cheese hit me the second I walked in my front door, as did the sound of what I’m almost positive was The Only Way Is Essex. Damn him. He knew how easily I got dragged into that awfully addicting reality show. “Hiiiii.” I gave him the nod before heading straight for my bedroom to change. Once I had a comfortable pair of pajama pants and a tank top on, I walked back out and plopped down on the pull out couch next to him.

“Staying over?”

“That cool?”

“Obviously.”

“Cheese toasty?” He handed me the plate and I took it.

“Sure, I’ll have some grilled cheese.”

“Cheese toasty.”

“Grilled cheese.”

“Cheese toasty.”

“Cheese toasty.”

“Grill—bugger off.” I giggled because I was so close to tricking him into using the correct name for the delicious sandwich. It was exceptionally made though, I would give him that. His chef skills were fantastic. “How was the date? Did he kiss you?”

“On the cheek.” I took another bite. “It was fun though. We danced a lot…laughed. He’s really nice.”

“You like him?”

“Mhm. But I’m more interested in you and Nadine. Spill, Styles.”

“She’s just…she’s being difficult. Like, dunno. Tired.”

“Who’s tired? Or…what’s tired?”

“Everything. M’feelin’ like the relationship is. Same old thing, day in and day out.”

“But you guys were good at first, weren’t you?”

“We were…it wasn't boring. Now it is though. Can’t really explain it, Hal.” His head was rested against the back of the couch and his arm was propped up on the cushions.

“Then get out of it.” He stared at me for a few seconds. “Or did you already do that?”

“Haven’t really—we’re still together. She’s at my place right now, we just aren’t speaking. It’s strange. Dunno how else to explain it.”

“You’re here.” He nodded, eyes never leaving mine.

“I’m here.”

“Why?”

“Cause…you’re my best mate. I’d rather be here than somewhere else.”

“I’m kinda glad you’re here too.” His lips quirked up into a toothless smile.

“So, tell me about this lad.” I shook my head.

“No…tell me about your week.” He sat up and took two more bites of the grilled cheese, then he told me about his week and I really couldn’t think of a better way to end the night.
