Dallas had become really good buddies with the gang and they acted as if he was part of it. One day, a dark red, beat up truck drives slowly past the Curtis house and does it again on the way back. The truck pulled up to the house and a man got out of it. The whole gang watched as the man came toward them looking down at the ground. When he reached us, he looked up and stared at Dally.
"Hey... I'm sorry about before. Here's a ten. Thought it could make up for it." Mark murmured.
"Make up for it? You think money could make up for what you did? Do you know how hard this is for me? To know my own father was gonna shoot me? I'm done with you and your drunk ass personality. I never even heard you say you love me! All you ever ask is for me to give you money so you can get boozed up! You don't even seem to care about me. GET OUT OF MY SIGHT YOU MAKE MY STOMACH SICK!" Dally screamed.Dallas had just stood up to Mark. Never in the years before has Dally ever dared to do that. He has talked back before but never like this. Mark just stood there is shock. He couldn't believe it too. With no idea what to do, Mark just walked back to his car and drove off.
"Wow. I see why you hate your father so much." Ponyboy mumbled.
"He sure is a piece of shit." Dally added angrily. "And I don't consider him as my father anymore."
Dally lit a weed and walked over and sat down on a stump. A tear trickled down his cheek but he wiped it away before anyone noticed.
"Man, why does life have to be so hard?" Dally wined with his hands in his mouth.. "I never asked for this. I never asked for an alcoholic as a father."
Dally started to bawl. He couldn't help it. Things are rough all over and there is no way to change that.
"It'll be alright. You got us." Sodapop said with a smile. "It's gonna be alright."
"And why do you think that? Mark doesn't even care about me. You guys have it made compared to me. Your parents care about you and love you..." Dally started.
"Our parents are dead." Ponyboy spoke up. "Two's yells all the time. Johnny's are abusive and Steve's don't care a thing about what he does."
"Well you guys sure hide it well." Dally stormed off and went into the Curtis house. He didn't want to talk about it anymore. Our parents are dead. "Jesus Christ. Why did I say that to Pony." Dally scolded himself.Ponyboy, Darry and Sodapop came in after what seemed like fifteen minutes. Pony and Soda went into their room and Darry walked up to Dally.
"You are welcome to stay as long as you want Dal." Darry smiled softly.
Dal. No one has called Dallas, Dal since his mother has died. That was her last word.
