"So we'll take him to his favorite restaurant and then give him his presents," Oikawa laid out the plan with you, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa. "And maybe we can hit the gym after since we know exercising will make him happy."
"Actually," you smiled apologetically, "I already booked a place for us at the beach. I've been planning a weekend getaway for his birthday for a few months, now."
Oikawa stared at you incredulously–his mouth hanging open in surprise. "Wow, look at you lovebirds go. Thanks for inviting us." He sulked at the fact that you'd be stealing his best friend away from him for the weekend.
Hanamaki laughed at the bratty brunette before turning to face you. "Don't mind him, Y/N. Go and have fun."
You laughed, throwing off the three boys in front of you. "You guys are coming too. All of us are special to Iwa. You're his best friends, and I'm his, you know, girlfriend."
Matsukawa raised his eyebrows at the plot twist, and immediately the trio sprung into action to pack stuff for a beach trip. As the planner you were, you'd already packed yours and Iwaizumi's things, so all that was left was to pick him up.
Your car easily fit the three boys who sat together in the back so that you and your boyfriend could chat up front. Iwaizumi was just finishing up at work when you pulled up in the parking lot and waved him over.
"GET IN, IWA-CHAN!" Oikawa rolled down the window.
The spiky-haired male slid into the passenger seat, confused but amused. "Is this a surprise for my birthday? Which restaurant are we going to?"
"Oh you'll see," Matsukawa laid a hand on the birthday boy's shoulder.
It took thirty minutes for your boyfriend to realize wherever you were taking him was farther than he had anticipated. The boys had fallen asleep a few miles back, so now it was just the two of you and the comfortable silence that had settled in.
"How much farther? Do you want me to drive? You must be pretty exhausted," Iwaizumi tucked a stray strand of hair behind your ear as you focused on the road. He admired your features, excited that you had planned such a big surprise for him.
Even though you had been dating for a couple years, now, these little questions made your heart flutter. Hajime was always caring and sweet despite the front he put up with his friends.
"We're almost there," you whispered. Just another thirty minutes and you pulled into a beach parking lot. You could already smell the intoxicating sea breeze that never failed to calm you down.
"Are we here already?" a sleepy Oikawa perked up. He noticed the vibrant sunset that lit up the sky and realized there were only a few hours left until his best friend's special day was over. "Y/N, take Iwa to the beach. The guys and I will make a reservation for a restaurant and prepare some stuff," he leaned forward and whispered into your ear.
You laughed at his franticness and handed the keys over to the now alert brunette. One thing was for sure–you could count on him to put something fantastic together.
"What? Where are we going now?" Iwa asked as you practically pulled him out of the car. But he understood as you walked hand-in-hand to the shoreline.
The cerulean waves lapped at the shoreline, tickling your toes. The two of you watched as the setting sun painted the ocean liquid gold before sinking beneath the horizon. The breeze, the rhythmic lull of the waves, the colorful sky–everything felt so perfect with Iwaizumi beside you.
"Happy birthday," you faced him. "Do you like it?"
"I love it," he grinned. "I love you."
He leaned in to press a loving kiss to your forehead before sliding his lips down to yours. Fireworks erupted within your chest even after you'd sat down next to each other on the sand to watch Mother Nature at work. The two of you leaned into each other's embrace. You felt so at home in his strong, toned arms. And Iwa couldn't help but smile as he parked his chin atop your head.
"I can't believe it," he sighed.
"Hmm?" You glanced up to meet his viridian eyes.
He pulled you closer, and you breathed in his scent. "I can't believe that we happened to cross paths in this large universe. And that our lives now overlap. We're sharing memories and making new ones like this," he gestured at the scenery. "It doesn't seem real."
You gave his hand a squeeze. "I can promise this is all very real, Hajime. And since when did you become a philosopher?"
He chuckled, and the vibrations traveled through his body into yours. Maybe it was the pinkish hue of the sunset. Maybe it was the feeling of his arms encircling your waist, but suddenly, your mind was rocketing a million miles a second. You pictured yourself in a wedding outfit with Iwa standing opposite you. You could see him slipping a sparkly ring on your finger and staring at you like you were his whole world. A few more seconds, and you saw him waving to you with a little baby swaddled in blankets. Romantic dinners, anniversaries, birthdays, settling down–you could only see yourself sharing your future with Iwaizumi.
The two of you were pulled out of the moment when Iwa's phone rang, and he quickly answered seeing the call was from Oikawa.
"Okay, so, we found an amazing seafood restaurant. We're coming to pick you up, but we also bought a four-tiered cake to celebrate. You absolutely cannot tell Iwa-chan, though. He would never approve of us eating that much cake."
You nearly wheezed since Iwa had placed the call on speakerphone, so you could both hear every word.
"Oi, Trashykawa. Did you check who's number you called? And why'd you get so much cake? To make up for the cake you lack?" your boyfriend teased his flatter-than-a-door bestie.
All you heard was a high-pitched scream before he hung up, and you giggled into Iwaizumi's chest. You hoped there would be more of this in the future. And that this would be the first of many birthday beach trips together.
"We should probably head to the parking lot," Iwaizumi helped you to your feet. He brushed the stubborn sand off your clothes. "We don't want to keep Trashykawa and the boys waiting."
You took one more glance of the ocean and then shifted your gaze to the man walking beside you.
"Wow, someone likes the view," Iwa caught you staring.
You stood on your tippy toes to press another kiss on his cheek. "Happy birthday, Hajime. And here's to many more."
"This is so sappy, I might puke," Hanamaki rolled up the car window to block out the view of the lovebirds kissing in the parking lot. "Can't you just honk and tell them to get in?"
Oikawa shushed the boy and shook his head. "It's his birthday. Let him finish getting his birthday kisses and then I'll honk."
Matsukawa covered his eyes with his hands. "Listen, Trashykawa. If you don't stop them now, Iwaizumi might be getting more than just kisses."
Oikawa blushed furiously at the thought and slammed a fist on the car's horn. "GET IN HERE RIGHT NOW, YOU TWO!"

A/N: HAPPY IWA DAY!! When I first starting watching Haikyuu, I had my eyes on everyone except Iwaizumi, but after rewatching certain matches, I realized how cool he is. This man looks like he takes all his vitamins, and he has so much confidence and charisma. I love how he's supportive of his team in his own way and ofc his beautiful friendship with Oikawa :)
Question of the imagine: What's your fav Iwa moment from Haikyuu? I think mine is when he finally broke the Iron Wall of Date Tech and earned a point for Seijoh.
