It'd been a few months since you'd started dating the university's heartthrob Kuroo Tetsurou. Instead of falling for his beauty, you were impressed by his brains. He was the one student in your PhD program that could go head-to-head on nanoparticles distributed in implantable devices to heal deep tissue damage. And as he agreed with your theories and shared some of his own, you'd fallen in love.
He could talk to you about docosahexanoic acid any day.
Your relationship had blossomed in the spring and simmered gently in the summer. And finally, your favorite season had arrived. Autumn.
This was the time of year you could trade your bland clothes for chunky knit sweaters, fleece, and hoodies. And the hoodie you were most looking forward to was Kuroo's. Excited for dating him through your first autumn together, you wondered if you'd get used to the smell of his cologne that clung to his clothes. Or if you'd overheat and spontaneously combust every time he offered to wrap you in his jacket to keep you warm.
Checking your reflection in the mirror, you beamed at your favorite breathable denim jeans and lilac sweater that complemented your complexion. You'd styled your hair with a tiny bit of product, too.
Kuroo had told you earlier in the week to keep your Saturday free and to wear something comfy. You couldn't wait to see what he had planned.
He picked you up at your doorstep and held the car door open for you. The man was a constant reminder that chivalry wasn't dead. On the ride over, he played the type of jazz that lights up coffee shops on cozy, rainy days. You felt so at peace by his side already, you couldn't imagine the day getting better.
"Close your eyes for me," Kuroo instructed as he pulled into the parking lot.
"Wouldn't be the first time I've heard that one," you joked under your breath.
But Kuroo smirked, and you giggled in response. You trusted your boyfriend as he gently led you out of the car and onto what felt like uneven ground. He coaxed you forward, whispering gently to keep putting one foot in front of the other as he held both your hands gingerly in his larger ones.
"Alright, open your eyes."
You blinked, letting yourself adjust to the bright sunlight that shone over rows and rows of pumpkins.
"TETSU!" you squealed, enveloping him in a hug that made his joints feel like putty.
"Glad you like it, sweet," he cooed, playing with your hair.
Together, you wandered aisle after aisle, figuring out which pumpkin you would grant the honor of taking home. There were ones bigger than a car tire and some that were speckled with orange and green that looked like they identified more as a squash than as a pumpkin.
"I like that one," you said finally, pointing to a perfectly round one that rested in a stack of hay. Kuroo hefted it with ease, flexing with his free arm to remind you he was beauty, brains, and brawn. How on earth did you get so lucky?
At his apartment, Kuroo worked with you to scoop out the pumpkin's insides and make muffins and dried seeds.
"Ahh," he prompted you as you opened your mouth, and he fed you a bite of muffin. "Shall we carve Newton, now?"
Newton was what you two had ended up naming your pumpkin...
"Absolutely! Why don't you pick out a pattern and start working while I make us hot cocoa," you suggested. "The one with the mini marshmallows."
Kuroo didn't need to be told twice. He took a seat at his dining table while you prepared two full, hot mugs. Except as you were carrying them to where he was sitting, you stumbled, spilling a little on your sweater.
Instantly, Kuroo was there, guiding you towards his room so you could change into one of his oversized hoodies. You blushed at the way the sleeves swallowed your arms, the scent of his cologne faintly woven into the fabric.
"Coffee stains aren't too bad if you catch them early," Kuroo smiled as he threw your top in the wash. "I found a pattern you might like. How do you feel about capybaras?"
"I like them... almost as much as I like you," you gushed, cringing at your own words as soon as they left your mouth.
Kuroo flashed you a smirk. "I know. I like you too, but the capybaras are coming for your spot."
The two of you sat down at his table and resumed your carving shenanigans. An orange-purplish light cooled the apartment as the sun set. You were left with the one fake candle you'd bought to put inside the pumpkin once you finished your masterpiece. But right now, the candle was lighting up the handsome features of your boyfriend's face.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer," Kuroo grinned, not looking up from where he worked.
You laughed, nudging him playfully. The motion rocked his hand at the wrong moment, and now your capybara had three eyes.
"Well now that we don't have a reason to perfect our carving," Kuroo said, pushing the pumpkin aside, "I can focus on what I've really wanted to work on."
"What's that?" you asked in a whisper as he flipped you around and gently lifted you onto the table.
"You."
His lips were on yours, and you could taste marshmallow and chocolate and a little bit of pumpkin muffin. His hands were warm against your heated skin, and each kiss felt like a confession.
You pulled away after it was so dark, even the candle felt useless. Kuroo stumbled for the lights, and he studied the damage–your pink cheeks and sinful gaze.
Without another word, he flicked the light switch off, and he led you back to his room. You'd probably need another change of clothes...

A/N: Wanted to keep this one a bit more fun and flirty hehe. Seeing Kuroo in the recent movie reminded me why he used to be one of my faves! And OFC I had to include the flexing iykyk
Question of the imagine: What's your favorite autumn activity? I haven't done it in a while, but mine is visiting an apple orchard to pick the fruits in season! Bonus points if they offer cider :)
