Bass Boosted Love (Bokuto)

Bokuto had been one of your best friends for ages.  You'd seen him through all his silly, goofy tantrums and through his journey as one of the top volleyball players in the country.  People had expected the energetic boy to fizzle out over time, but if anything, his stamina and personality had only multiplied.

However, there were moments when you saw a different side to him.  The softer, attentive persona that you silently hoped he'd only shown you.  The last time he'd revealed that side of himself had been on one of your usual nightly calls.  It had been a Friday, meaning you could stay up till dawn catching each other up on your week.  Even though you both lived in the same region, Bokuto's training schedule kept him glued to the court.  His childhood friend Akaashi usually had to meet him at his gym if he wanted to sneak a word in with the guy.

That last call, though, had changed the trajectory of your relationship.  Before, the two of you had been all jokes and giggles.  But then Bokuto had started talking about dating apps and swiping, and when you argued that no one would probably swipe right for you, he interjected that he would.  And he didn't stop there.  He went on to argue that you were one of the prettiest people he'd ever met with mesmerizing hips and beautiful thighs–an insecurity you'd brought up with him in one of your previous calls.

You were silent for a few seconds before clearing your throat and saying you'd swipe right for him, too.  You could practically hear Bokuto grin into his phone.

And so after that call, the two of you danced around each other curiously.  Your interactions were a mix of flirty and cautious, being just careful enough to pull back at any time and laugh it off.  You knew fully allowing yourself to fall for Bokuto would destroy you if things went wrong.

Tonight, you had worn clothes that showed a little more skin than usual.  More of your curvy hips and thick thighs.  You were going to an NCT concert after all, so of course you had to cosplay as a neon green highlighter.  The color suited your skin better than you could imagine.

Bokuto met you in front of the venue, smiling at you before pulling you into one of his warm bear hugs.  He held you so close, you wouldn't be surprised if your body decided to abandon the laws of physics and conform to his shape.

"You look good tonight," he whispered seductively in your ear.

He too was dripped out in neon green with his dual-toned hair styled up with gel.  Hand in hand, you entered the arena and stood pressed against hundreds of other screaming fans.  The lights dimmed, and the boyband took the stage, sending a shockwave of energy throughout the crowd.  The bass blasted so loud, it felt like it was re-syncing your heart rate.

"You ok?" Bokuto mouthed.  He overemphasized his mouthing since it was too loud to hear over the music.

His hair had fallen over his forehead, now sticky with sweat.  And he reached out a hand to hold yours and cement you in the sea of bodies.  You gratefully took it, feeling his pulse in his hand, and a current traveled up your arm into your own heart, re-syncing it once more.  You couldn't tell if it was the music or the way Bokuto's golden eyes were locked on you, but you felt so whole.  This was the man who made you experience every emotion at 100%.  Maybe "like" wasn't a strong enough word to describe how you felt about him.

As you were about to scream a response to him, a fan rammed into you, and you collided with Bokuto's hard chest.  He instantly pulled you into the aisle and up the stairs towards the back of the arena.

"What–" but you were cut off when he put his volleyball muscles to use, lifting you up so that eventually you sat on his shoulders.

Your arms gripped his head for dear life, thankful for the better view but also embarrassed out of your mind.

"I would rather not see you get hurt on the best night of our lives," Bokuto yelled above the music.

Subconsciously, you ran your fingers through his hair as you began to relax and settle into your position.  Occasionally, you felt his muscles shift underneath you, and it took your full concentration not to think about the heat of his shoulders searing into your thighs.

After the show, the two of you decided to grab ice cream to cool off from the sweaty arena.  Or maybe from the way your bodies had almost melted into each other when you were perched on his shoulders.

You ate your fruity pebbles ice cream while Bokuto decided to try the shop's seasonal blueberry lavender flavor.

"If you really zero in on it, it tastes like soap," Bokuto made a face.  "Wanna try?"

You were about to dig your spoon into his cup when he used his own spoon to feed you.  It was an oddly intimate gesture that melted you more than the ice cream.

"I'm not sure how much more of this I can take," you finally admitted.  "You feel it too, right?"

Bokuto set down his bowl.  "Yes."

"We've always avoided talking about it, but tonight is probably the most of anything I've ever felt in my life," you explained.  "I don't even know if I can capture my emotions with words.  You just feel right.  Like the correct answer to any question."

Bokuto hummed in approval.  "Akaashi told me I should be the one to bring it up.  I didn't anticipate you doing it first.  He also told me to take deep breaths before I tell you how much I like you, but I'm currently in manual breathing mode because you sorta short circuited my brain earlier, and I haven't been able to breathe right since.  And now I'm yapping because I'm not sure how to save my confession, but I–"

You shoved a spoonful of fruit pebbles ice cream in his mouth, effectively shutting him up.  His eyes crinkled into a smile, and he spoke around your spoon, like a toddler.

"Short circuiting again," he grinned.

A/N: This one was F U N!  Had to go back to my roots and tie in some NCT but also had to make this all about Bokuto after coming up with the outline for this imagine :)

Question of the imagine: If you could go to any concert in the world, who would you take with you? I'd probably take a friend I know I could scream my lungs out, but if we're talking Haikyuu, I would lowkey want to go with Terushima just for vibes
