You tried to ignore the thumping in your chest as all the eyes in the room focused on you.  It was hard to even set up your canvas and easel without your hands shaking, but you glanced up and saw a familiar pair of cocoa orbs.

Daichi?

He must have snuck in when everyone else was finding their seats.  But why did he ditch his own class to come support you?  He couldn't possibly care that much, could he?

"Start your presentation whenever you're ready," the professor nodded at you.

Taking a deep breath, you locked eyes with Daichi once more before launching into the lines you'd memorized.  You took it slow and made sure to keep breathing.  Each word came out crystal clear, and you could tell you had everyone's interest as you told your story.

"Art is something anyone can use to convey how they feel using shapes and images.  After all, 'a picture is worth a thousand words'."  You ended the speaking part of your presentation without a single slip-up, and the students clapped in approval.  Now, it was time to wrap up with a small demonstration and call it a day.  That A+ was surely yours.

You loaded up your brush with a chocolate-colored paint, but instead of etching the mast of the sailboat, you found yourself making rough, jagged lines.  Your hand worked hypnotically, as if it had a mind of its own.  Flushed cheeks, inviting eyes, a dazzling smile–you stepped back in horror as you realized you'd painted none other than your friend Sawamura Daichi.

"I wonder why she painted him."

"Must be her boyfriend."

"Is that the guy who snuck into our class?  They make a cute couple."

"Whatever the case, the painting is really good."

The whispering around you made you wish you were a turtle that could withdraw into its shell and hide there for a few millennia.  Quickly, you packed up your supplies and sat down in your seat at the back of the class.  You pretended to ignore the way Daichi turned in his spot to stare at you, concern probably written all over his face.  But you refused to look at him.  How could you face the man after babbling on about feelings and then painting him for the entire class to see?

As soon as the bell rang, you slipped out of the room and made a beeline for the furthest class on campus.  But you were no match against the athlete.  It took a few long strides for Daichi to catch up to you, and he pulled you into an empty hallway for some privacy.

"Hey, Y/N," he started, and you felt hotness rise in your cheeks.

"Hi, Daichi," you squeaked.

"I didn't realize I looked like that," your friend admitted.  "You drew me so warmly, like a man with nothing but kindness to give.  I didn't know you saw me that way."

You almost facepalmed.  "Everyone sees you that way, though.  You're always kind and helpful.  And so dependable.  I can always count on you whenever I need advice.  And even if you don't have an answer to everything, you're supportive and reliable."

Daichi leaned back against the cool concrete wall and laughed.  "If I knew you felt that way, maybe I would have made a move sooner.  I may not be an artist, but I do believe that 'a picture is worth a thousand words'."

Pulling out his phone, he opened his camera roll to reveal an image of you.  It was a picture of you from last night with a bit of chocolate ice cream on the corner of your mouth, your lips twisted upwards in a grin.  Your eyes shone brightly as you focused on your sailboat painting on the coffee table, and your blush deepened.

"You didn't tell me I had food on my face," you pouted.

Daichi shifted his gaze from his phone to you, and hesitated before leaning in and pecking your cheek.  "You had a crumb here."  Peck.  "And another there."  Peck.  "Probably one here."

Your heart was bursting at this point, but you were relieved he was pulling a move on you in this empty hallway.

"Can we slow down?  I've never done something like this before, so I'm a bit new to all this skinship," you bit your lip.

Daichi's eyes widened in concern.  "Oh no!  Y/N, did I make you feel uncomfortable?  I should have totally asked.  I'm such an idiot!"

Wordlessly, you slipped your hand into his and shook your head.  "If you're an idiot, then I'm a nincompoop."

He squeezed your hand tightly and looked away.  "I'm an idiot when it comes to feelings and all, so you'll have to take the lead there."

Was that a blush on the confident Daichi's face?  It comforted you knowing that both of you were nervous wrecks, although in different areas of life.  But you wouldn't want to be nervous with anyone else.

"Wanna come over to my place tonight again?  We can bake a cake this time since the other guys will be there," Daichi suggested.

You grinned.  "I guess a cake would be the perfect way to celebrate my A+ presentation."
