He should be here any minute now.  You tapped your foot against the floor anxiously.  A few seconds passed before he rounded the corner and bumped right into you.

"Sorry," you apologized like a reflex.  You parted your lips to say something, but the blonde moved past you, not paying you any attention.  It was understandable, though.  Atsumu had a huge match coming up in a few minutes against a team that was known for their raw defense.  You didn't blame him for tuning everything out and getting into the zone.  But you came all this way, so you might as well gift him the bento you packed.

Forcing your legs forward, you ignored the little voice in your head telling you to let him go and instead tried to match his brisk walking pace.  Every time you caught up, the faster he seemed to walk.  You were about to burst into a sprint when he suddenly stopped.  Neither physics nor gravity were on your side as you collided into the tall male.  You and your bento box went flying, and Atsumu only managed to catch one of you.

"You dropped this."  His voice was laced with irritation, and you staggered to your feet.

Warm liquid oozed down your knee, and you noticed the blood dripping down your leg and staining your sock red.

"It's actually for you.  I made it myself," you smiled through the pain.  "I looked up what foods are best for athletes and tried to incorporate everything so that you would feel powered up.  I hope you like it."

Atsumu shifted his gaze from you to the bento box before letting the home-packed meal slip out of his grip.  You watched it fall, almost as if in slow motion, and you to dove to save it.  There was no way he could have dropped it on purpose, right?  The box split open on the concrete–the carefully arranged contents spilling everywhere.

Without another word, the blonde left you on the steps outside the volleyball arena, with nothing but his match on his mind.  His other teammates rushed over to you, helping you up and cleaning up the mess.  But part of you wanted to be ignored and left alone.  It hurt, liking someone for so long and having them treat you worse than trash.

Atsumu, on the other hand, was now incredibly annoyed.  You had burst his concentration bubble, and now he couldn't think properly.  He knew you were always the fan who screamed the loudest and decorated banners for the team.  You often brought bentos for the members, but he found you a nuisance.  Why couldn't you support from the sidelines like everyone else?  Why did you have to be so nosy?

The guys on his team muttered something about him about being "heartless", but he brushed their comments off.  What mattered now was winning.  Atsumu jogged onto the court and grinned as the crowd cheered for him, but the screams were noticeably quieter today.  Craning his neck, he noticed the missing banner that usually hung on one side of the gym.

Whatever.  He didn't need a crowd to get pumped up.

The match lasted longer than most, almost needing a 4th round because the score was climbing so high.  Sweat dripped down Atsumu's face and soaked his shirt.  He could tell the other players were exhausted and honestly wanted to get the game over with.  His thighs burned, and his fingers were starting to ache from setting so many tosses.

Atsumu dodged his twin Osamu that had leapt in front of him to block a spike.  In the process, the blonde got a little too acquainted with the floor and skinned his elbow.  Blood smeared across his jersey, but he stood up, battling the new pain as well as the exhaustion.  He'd definitely need to eat something to get his energy up post match.

"You okay?" Osamu pat his twin on the back.

The setter nodded, waving off the medic who was making her way onto the court to check his busted elbow.  He was going to finish this, right here and right now.  The match resumed, and Atsumu was now positioned under the ball.  Who should I toss to?  Osamu?  Kita?

But Atsumu's body reacted before his mind could, and he used a setter dump on the opponent.  The crowd roared, probably relieved that the game had finally come to a close.  Atsumu stumbled off the court, sticking his hand out to reach for his protein shake, but it wasn't there.

"The fan you pushed away earlier usually prepares your protein shakes, but after what you did–" Kita started.

Atsumu sighed and grabbed a cap and his wallet.  "Don't wait for me.  I'm heading out for some fresh air."

He slipped out of his gym shoes and into his loafers.  Luckily, there was a pharmacy nearby where he could grab an energy bar and some ointment for his elbow.  Hesitantly, he grabbed a few more bandaids and some alcohol pads.

There was probably no chance he'd run into you now, but somehow, buying the extra first aid helped ease his guilty conscience just a little.  He wandered around the arena grounds until he spotted your mismatched socks–one white, one an unsettling shade of red.

Slowly, he took a seat beside you, and waited for you to smack him like he deserved.   Instead, you stared at him with so much hurt in your eyes, that his chest began to throb more than his elbow.

"I'm s–"

You cut him off, not giving him a chance to say what was on his mind.  "I'll disappear for you," you sighed.  "I didn't realize I was such an annoying presence in your life.  It's just that–seeing you play changed my life.  I suddenly wanted to grab hold of the things in front of me and do my best.  You know, the way you do with volleyball?  And I guess supporting you with banners and bentos was the only way I could thank you."

The pounding in Atsumu's chest increased with every word.  He could feel your pain and wanted to fix things.  Instead of trying for a verbal apology, he knelt in front of you and tenderly took your knee in his hands.

"Why didn't you go to the pharmacy to get this treated?" he asked softly.  "I'm sure this hurt."

You huffed, folding your arms over your chest.  "I mean, I couldn't just leave.  I was watching," you pointed to the digital screen outside the arena that had broadcasted the game.

"Silly goose," he chuckled.  "Okay, hold my shoulder for a second.  This will sting."

You looked away, refusing to touch the man in front of you, but as soon as he swiped the alcohol pad across your laceration, you quickly changed your mind.  Your fingers gripped his shoulder with so much strength, the man felt like he was seeing stars himself.  But he cleaned your wound thoroughly and neatly bandaged it.  He even gave you a protein bar to munch on after he'd finished.

"Your turn," you spoke up.

"What?"

You rolled your eyes and lifted the sleeve of his blood-soaked jersey.  "You need some medical attention, too."

He settled beside you and let you work your magic.  Your first aid was surprisingly almost professional level, and he learned through small talk that you interned at a pharmacy for a while, so you'd picked up on these things.

"I'm sorry!" Atsumu finally blurted out.  "Everything felt so empty with you gone.  I didn't just miss the banners or the bentos or the protein shakes.  I missed you."

Your cheeks lit up at his statement, and you tried your best to maintain your composure.

"If you're not busy, do you want to grab some ice cream?  This summer heat feels a lot hotter with you beside me," he winked.

"I think I liked you better with your mouth closed," you teased, nearly laughing at his genuinely fallen expression.  "Let's go.  I've been craving something sweet!"

Atsumu smirked, raising his eyebrows seductively.  "What, so I'm not sweet enough?"

A/N: When I watched Haikyuu for the first time, I really felt so inspired to work harder at everything I was doing and really do things with no regrets.  I hope I can continue that with writing and improve my stories more :)

Question of the imagine: What dish would you make for someone if you could only prepare one thing?  I don't cook too much, but maybe a cake?  I made a strawberry cake once, and I was really happy that it turned out well!
