Library Love (Yamaguchi)

Yamaguchi had only felt this feeling once before in his life–the first time he'd served a jump floater.  But now, that strange feeling was creeping up on him again.  His fingers tingled, and his heart pounded like a drum.  How could you have such an effect on him?

"T–Tsukki," the freckled boy tapped his best friend on the shoulder.  "I feel strange."

Tsukishima watched his green-haired friend lean over, resting his hands on his knees.  The blonde couldn't decide whether Yamaguchi was about to vomit or curl up in a ball.  Either way, he was concerned for the guy.

"What's wrong?" Tsukishima asked.  Even though the two boys were close, they never shared intimate conversations.  All they talked about was volleyball and future plans.  But from the look in Yamaguchi's eyes, he could diagnose him at a glance.

"I really really like Y/N," Yamaguchi fidgeted with the hem of his shirt.

Tsukishima chuckled.  "Well I'd hope so.  She's your girlfriend, after all."

Hearing the word girlfriend put an embarrassing blush on Yamaguchi's face.  It'd been a good two months since you'd started dating, and so far, things were sailing smoothly.  Tsukishima couldn't imagine what problems could arise between you.

"So?" the blonde prompted him.

"So, we've been taking it slow.  But part of me really wants to k-kiss her," Yamaguchi admitted.

Normally, the blonde would have laughed and said something condescending, but he was genuinely happy for his friend.  He hadn't seen this pure smile on Yamaguchi's face since he'd nailed his jump float serve.  His hazel eyes were full of excitement.

Tsukishima sighed.  "You're heading to the campus library to study with her now, aren't you?  Maybe you can find an opportunity–"

"TSUKKI!  You can't just kiss in the library!  That's such a sacred place!"  Yamaguchi didn't realize how loud he was until a few nearby university students laughed amongst themselves.

"I didn't mean in the library," the blonde groaned.  "Just go for it when the moment feels right.  And," he paused, looking away, "we can talk about your kiss when you get back to the apartment."

Knowing he had Tsukishima's support, Yamaguchi put on a brave smile and pushed the library doors open.  You sat in your usual spot by the large glass-paneled windows.  The sunlight streaming through illuminated your glossy hair and the spread of notes you were hunched over.

Your ears pricked up at the familiar set of footsteps, and your blinding smile sent Yamaguchi's heart racing in his chest.  You patted the seat next to you, and he eagerly took a seat.

"How long have you been here for?  Looks like you got a head start," Yamaguchi whispered, careful not to disturb the other students.

"Since noon, so about five hours," you grinned.  "Unfortunately, I'm not a genius like you who gets it on the first go."

Yamaguchi resisted the urge to ruffle your hair and boop your nose.  He was aware that you liked to review to the point that each lecture was ingrained in your mind.  But sometimes, he worried that one day, you'd push yourself too hard.  He could already make out the tired lines around your eyes.

"Why don't you take a short nap?  They're supposed to help you recall information you've learned better," your boyfriend suggested.  He handed you his headphones and pulled up a playlist he'd created while thinking about you.

Slowly, you took it and lay your head down on the table.  Soft, soothing music filled your ears, and your eyes lazily closed.  You woke up to the smell of fresh coffee, but when you cracked your eyes open, you were surprised to see Yamaguchi.  His face was a few centimeters from yours, and his hazel eyes fluttered closed to avoid your questioning gaze.

"S–sorry, you're just so beautiful," he murmured.

Yamaguchi caught the way your cheeks flushed crimson, and how you averted your gaze.  It didn't matter how sacred of a place the library was.  This was it.  This was the moment he'd been waiting for.  Yamaguchi slid closer, but paused as his lips ghosted over yours.

"Is it okay if I kiss you?"  He knew Tsukishima had told him to go for it, but he wanted you to want this, too.

You gave him a small nod, and the green-haired boy placed a chaste kiss on your lips.  Even though it'd been fleeting, it left both of you buzzing with electricity.  This time, you leaned in, pecking his lips, then his cheek, then the tip of his nose.

The two of you sat up, suddenly aware of what had just happened between you.  Yamaguchi awkwardly pushed a cup of coffee towards you.

"I got you this to help you study when you woke up," he rubbed the back of his neck.

You sighed at how thoughtful he was.  "Tadashi, you're the best."

"I know," he smirked before burying his nose in his textbook as he felt the lingering feeling of your lips on his.

"What took you so long?" Tsukishima asked as Yamaguchi stumbled into the apartment.  His eyes glazed over his friend's slightly swollen lips and the dazed look in his eyes.  "Ah, nevermind."

Yamaguchi collapsed next to his friend, and the blonde eagerly leaned in to hear the tea.  And boy did Yamaguchi spill it.

"I can't believe you actually kissed her.  I'm proud of you," Tsukki playfully slapped his back.

Yamaguchi nodded and folded his arms behind his head.  After the little awkward phase, you'd both found a corner in the historical literature section where he could take his sweet time kissing you.  Of course, Tsukishima didn't need to know that part.

The freckled boy grinned.  "I think I'm going to be at the library more often these days."
