Kenma logged into his desktop, the neon lights of his monitor whirring to life. Shades of pink, yellow, and orange lit up his room, and he snuggled into his chair with a bowl of cereal. There was nothing more perfect than the blissful calm of midnight.
There were no rules.
There were no expectations.
There was no Kuroo.
Kenma slid his headset on, excited by the string of curses he would soon let out that contrasted his otherwise soft image. He smiled even brighter seeing his favorite gamer pop online–Sir_Cumference. He appreciated how the guy had jazzed up a math term for his handle. Very similar to Kenma's applepi.
applepi: hey, ready for the final boss?
Sir_Cumference: ofc, are u?
applepi: lowkey nervous lol
Sir_Cumference: ready as I'll ever be, let's gooooo
Kenma appreciated how this fellow gamer also didn't use voice chat. Instead, they opted for jam sessions, sharing playlists to immerse themselves in whatever world they were in. Today, they battled scaly dragons with an armored hide. It would be near impossible to take them down without special grade items.
applepi: i only have a diamond sword, wbu?
Sir_Cumference: titanium crossbow
applepi: bet, I'll lead
Sir_Cumference: afraid I'll steal ur thunder? I'll lead applecrumble
The boy smiled into his cereal, watching as Sir_Cumference valiantly thrust himself in front of the dragon's beady yellow eyes and flaring nostrils. The gamer used his crossbow to find a chink in the beast's scaly hide. Kenma didn't even have to lift a finger.
applepi: impressive
Sir_Cumference: what can i say? i'm 2 cool for u
applepi: hold on, let me grab my cat from outside. started raining... AFK
Sir_Cumference: raining? u live in Japan, right? Where at?
Kenma returned to his keyboard. He'd gamed with Sir_Cumference over the course of three years, so even though he hadn't met the guy, he trusted he wasn't some creep. He was way too talented to be some weirdo. Plus, Sir_Cumference had been one of Kenma's first fans when he started streaming live at the start of his gaming career.
applepi: tokyo
The boy watched the three dots hover in the chat as Sir_Cumference started typing and then backtracked. This went on for minutes until finally, a message popped up.
Sir_Cumference: wanna meet? I live in tokyo too
Sir_Cumference: ... you can always say no applecrumble
applepi: down, lmk where
Sir_Cumference: Latte Lounge 3 pm? Or is that too early?
Kenma laughed. He and Sir_Cumference had a ritual of gaming until at least 3 am every night. It was a well known fact Kenma wouldn't be up until well past noon.
