" I was expecting more infected to be down in here." I panted.

" The horde must be deeper into town then. Second floor looks secure. Infected can't climb that high."

" I want to look around a bit more. My stomach's eating itself."

" I have some jerky left over. I don't want you going out by yourself."

" Alright."

" Get me up there and you can look around."

Tommy and I climbed up on the counter and I boosted him up. " There's some room up here for us, not a lot though."

" think we can clear some of the rubble?"

" Can do."

" I'll go get some fire wood."

" How's the drawing going?" Tommy asked me, a Clicker screaming in the distance.

" Tell me what's wrong. And don't tell me it's nothing. I can see right through you."

" I'll tell you if you tell me what's wrong."

I handed him my journal. " Read page fifteen."

He took it and opened it up, shock and worry instantly hitting his face as I added another log to the bondfire.

A few minutes later, he handed it back to me. " Ellie, I'm sorry to hear."

" Thanks."

" Whenever your ready, you can talk to me about it if you want."

I looked up at him, meeting his gaze. " Is it about Joel?"

Tommy's expression turned to complete sadness, and after a few minutes he answered. " He passed away in his sleep that morning we headed out. I've been trying to find the right time, but it never came. I'm so sorry Ellie. I can try to be there for you like he did, but.... I don't think it will be the same for you."

" I can't.... I can't breathe."

" Ease into it. Take little breaths." Tommy said as he started rubbing my back.

I gripped my chest.

" Why? Who would-"

" Don't talk. It'll add stress on to your panic attack."

Tommy easilly put his hand on my head and leaned me into him. " I gotcha kiddo."

The sunlight beems glared in from somecracks, the clackling from the fire slowly decressing as I finished up on my journaling.

I still can't believe Joel was gone. He was doing so well... it didn't make any sense. Why wouldn't someone have told me? Wait, they were training new surgins. Could one of them fucked up? That's the only resonable explanation. Maria was affraid I would kill them, so she sent me away. I'm not the only one hurting. Tommy's heartbroken.

" Morning." Tommy said, tossing up his backpack.

" You find anything?" I quickly asked.

" Some basic supplies, but no food. Sorry kiddo. Every building that was sealed off was full of infected."

" We could always eat Thunder." Helping Tommy up with a smile.

" I'm glad I'm not the only one that's thought of that."

" How many arrow's do you have left?"

" Your not going to be able to shot those squerls with arrows, their to fast."

" I can't shoot them."

" That reminds me." Tommy took out a map.

" Here'd you find that?"

His expression turned grim. " I marked a few places where there's probably a good amount of supply's, but it's going to have some people guarding it, and probably infected. First place is a building called the Saravina Hotel. You feel up to travel?"

" I'm fine to go."

" Let's ger er done." Tommy said with a laugh.

I started to chuckle. " Thanks for the laugh.

" Always."
