Chapter 30

It had been 3 years since the misscarriage of our son.  Riley was so supportive and helpful.  Jessica was now in the 3rd grade and her little sisters falled into place, a year apart.  Riley was still teaching at the high school and I was now in charge of the ER department and my mom was pretty much free to work in which ever department she wanted.  My dad was now just a general practicioner.

Riley and I just finished our Valentine's Day love session.  I was asleep beside him when I heard his phone ring.  He reached over me and grabbed it.  "Hello?"  he said quietly.  "Her cell phone must be off or the battery is dead."  he said.  "Yeah, I'll wake her up."  he said.  "All right.  Bye."  he hung up the phone.  "Ali?"  I woke up turning my head toward him.  "You're needed at the hospital baby."

I groaned turning back to my pillow.  "You should seriously consider not putting me to sleep every time."  he laughed.

"Gotta keep up with Caine baby."  he said kissing my ear.  "Go shower.  I'll go start the truck."

I got to the hospital.  I hung up my jacket in my locker.  "Ali, we have a patient in cardiac arrest."  I put my hair up and grabbed my things.  I followed her lead jogging behind her.  "Start compressions."  I did.  "Clear."

This went on for 15 minutes.  We eventually got the patient back to a fairly normal rhythm.  I was standing at the desk filing out the paperwork for the recent procedure done on the patient.  My mom walked over.  "So, did you enjoy your Valentine's Day with Riley?"

"I was in the process of enjoying it more when the phone rang."  I said with a smirk.

"I understand, but I'm glad you're here to help."

"Hey mom?"  I said.

"Yeah?"  No one was nearby so I asked her.

"Nina did a lot of internal healing for Riley's wolf.  Do you think...?"

"That you might be able to carry a son?"  she asked.  I nodded.

"There's a possibiliy.  You'll have to talk to Dr. Richards and see if it's a good idea."

"I just want a baby boy so much."

"I know.  Honey, you call Riley before you talk to Dr. Richards and see what Riley says.  You both need to be on the same page."

"I know."

That afternoon, I was done with my shift.  I was sitting in the parking lot and I finally decided to give Riley a call.  It rang twice.  "Hey pretty lady."  I blushed.

"Hey Ry."

"What's up babe?"

"You remember what I told you about Nina?"

"Yes."

"Well, I talked to mom and she suggested talking to Dr. Richards."

"Talked to mom about?"

"Whether or not Nina's healing could..."

"Mean that you could have another baby."  he said.

"I didn't call to make you mad Riley.  I just...  I wanted to tell you.  I'm getting ready to leave."

"Do what you want Ali."

"Riley."  my voice broke.  "I just wanted to tell you.  I don't want you to be mad."
