It was late December and I was sitting in the high school lobby area on my laptop. My cell phone buzzed and I saw that it was Riley. "Hey babe."
"Hey you."
"What'cha doin'?"
"Sitting here. Snow emergency. Stuck at school until roads are cleared. Mom's tending to some kids that fell on the ice."
"Ah. So you're bored."
"Pretty much."
"What're you doing?"
"Sitting in the principal's office trying to get them to let me see my girl. :)"
I looked up and saw Riley standing in the doorway, he smiled, I ran to him and he hugged me tight. "I'm so glad you're here."
"Me too baby."
"When did you get here?"
"A half hour ago."
He took me and my mom home in his 4 wheel drive pick up. We got home within an hour. My dad was here along with Riley's parents. Riley took my bag and carried my mom's stuff in. We got inside and stomped the snow off our shoes. Riley helped me with my coat and took off his. He took my mom's coat and hung them up. The adults went into the kitchen and Riley and I sat on the couch. He took my cold hands in his and warmed them up for me.
"How long are you staying?" I asked.
"How long do you want me to?"
"How long can you?" I asked and he grinned.
"Until we have to go back." I hit him with one of the couch pillows. He laughed and pulled me into his arms and hugged me. His chest against my back.
That night, Riley and I were watching a movie in my room, sitting on the floor. His arm around my shoulders. "So how long are you staying?"
"About that..." I turned my head to look at him.
"We're moving back. We were supposed to get the papers for the house across the street and the snow storm hit."
"REALLY!?"
"Yes, really." I tackled him with a hug. He chuckled and hugged me back.
Morning came, I came downstairs and saw that Riley was still asleep on the couch. His arm resting over his head and his head resting on his arm. I went into the kitchen, my mom and dad were sitting at the table with Marci and Kevin. "Good morning." I said.
"Good morning honey." My mom said giving me a hug.
"Is your boyfriend awake yet?" Jr. asked coming downstairs.
"No." I said.
"He'll be up in 20 minutes." Riley's mom said. "Always happens. Break or not, he all ways gets up at 7:30."
"Gives him more time to sniff his armpit." I said. His mom laughed.
"That's how he sleeps."
Riley woke up and came into the kitchen. My mom and I were making breakfast. Dad, Kevin, and Jr. were out shoveling some snow. Riley put on his boots and went to help.
A week later, Riley and I were outside having a snowball fight with Jr. and his girlfriend, and my siblings and Riley's. I ran across the yard and tried to tackle Riley into the snow bank. He caught me and tossed me into the pile of fluffy snow.
